ROSS LOIBL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Ten $500 scholarships will be awarded to North Dakota high school seniors who plan to attend college in the 2015-2016 academic year. This scholarship is available to any graduating senior who has participated in basketball at the varsity level. Awards will be given upon proof of enrollment at an accredited institution of higher learning. Ross Loibl was a well-respected basketball official from Bismarck, ND. He lost his brave battle with cancer at the age of 33 on April 29, 2003. He was born and raised in McVille, ND to Maynard and Rita Loibl. He graduated from McVille High School and Valley City State University. He also obtained his Masters degree from the University of Mary. He married Barb Didier on August 5, 1994 and moved to Bismarck where they took teaching jobs at Fort Lincoln Elementary School in Mandan. Ross changed careers in 2000 and went to work for Wells Fargo Bank and was employed there until his death. Along with Barb, Ross left behind two sons, Nathan, 18, and Nash, 14. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and ski. His enthusiasm for those things was outdone only by his devotion to family and his love of officiating girls’ and boys’ basketball. Ross was an extremely accomplished official, receiving many regional and state tournament assignments in his brief tenure as a sports official. Applicants for this scholarship must have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 on a 4.0=A scale. The selection committee will also consider the student’s work experience, community service, other extra-curricular activities and financial need when determining award winners.
