ROSS LOIBL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Ten $500 scholarships will be awarded to North Dakota high school seniors who plan to
attend college in the 2015-2016 academic year. This scholarship is available to any
graduating senior who has participated in basketball at the varsity level. Awards will be
given upon proof of enrollment at an accredited institution of higher learning. Ross Loibl
was a well-respected basketball official from Bismarck, ND. He lost his brave battle with
cancer at the age of 33 on April 29, 2003. He was born and raised in McVille, ND to
Maynard and Rita Loibl. He graduated from McVille High School and Valley City State
University. He also obtained his Masters degree from the University of Mary. He married
Barb Didier on August 5, 1994 and moved to Bismarck where they took teaching jobs at
Fort Lincoln Elementary School in Mandan. Ross changed careers in 2000 and went to
work for Wells Fargo Bank and was employed there until his death. Along with Barb,
Ross left behind two sons, Nathan, 18, and Nash, 14. He was an avid outdoorsman who
loved to hunt, fish, and ski. His enthusiasm for those things was outdone only by his
devotion to family and his love of officiating girls’ and boys’ basketball. Ross was an
extremely accomplished official, receiving many regional and state tournament
assignments in his brief tenure as a sports official. Applicants for this scholarship must
have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 on a 4.0=A scale. The selection committee will also
consider the student’s work experience, community service, other extra-curricular
activities and financial need when determining award winners.
