A modern expert meeting constantly increasing requirements of competitiveness on a labor market, has to have a high level of language preparation. In this regard at the present stage of higher education development, English has become one of the most demanded subjects. It is considered as an obligatory component of vocational training of a graduate. English is not simply one of tools for mastering professional knowledge, but a necessary and indisputable component of professional activity. Being unable to speak English makes impossible further development and improvement of an expert in this area. In this regard the principle of communicative and professionally- oriented approach is put in the core of the concept of teaching English. The main aim of teaching English is to teach students to get necessary and reliable information and to be able to use it. LEVEL UPPER-INTERMEDIATE (В2) This working curriculum is developed on the basis of the manual ‘The Business’ used as the basic manual for teaching first- and second-year students at the Almaty Management University. While drawing up this working curriculum for the Upper-Intermediate level authors were guided by regulations of the Standard Training Program on discipline «The Foreign Language for non-linguistic specialties» in appliance with SGESE RК 6.08.085-2010 of the Ministry of Education and Science of RK (introduced by the order № 514 оf 3rd November 2010). The purpose of teaching English as a general subject at the Almaty Management University consists in formation of communicative and professional competence of students necessary for daily and business communication, and also for studying of foreign experience in the specialty. The goal of the course is concretized in requirements to communicative skills in speaking, understanding of oral speech, reading and writing. The practical course of English is considered in the program as the discipline urged to satisfy needs of future experts for acquisition of knowledge and skills which will allow them: - to carry out oral and written communication in English in all types of speech activity; - to master lexical, grammatical and phonetic minimum of general and professional English taking into account the level of teaching for communicatively-oriented use in business communication; - to deepen knowledge independently and to improve the skills acquired at university for further professional activity; Pre-requisites: scope of knowledge in English at the Intermediate level Post-requisites: gained knowledge necessary for English studying at the Advanced level Requirements to language knowledge and communicative skills: By the end of the course at the Upper-Intermediate level the student has to know: - phonetics: basic rules of reading and pronouncing loanwords; mastering the main intonation means in emphatic function; - spelling: correct writing of words belonging to the lexical minimum; - lexis: word-formation models, contextual meaning of polysemantic words, special vocabulary, phrasal verbs, phrases, set expressions and terms (minimal lexical scope of 800 units); - grammar: main grammatical structures necessary for building logical, coherent statements.
