Objectives:
7.2E- Describe the order operations in a
given numerical expression and simplify
numerical expressions involving order of
operations and exponents
8.4A- Generate a different representation of
data given another representation of data
(such as a table, graph, equation, or verbal
description)
8.5B-Write and evaluate an algebraic
expression to determine any term in an
arithmetic sequence (with a constant rate of
change) and identify the appropriate
algebraic expression given terms in a
sequence.
ELPS C.3c- Speak using a variety of
grammatical structures, sentence lengths,
sentence types, and connecting words with
increasing accuracy and ease as more English
is acquired.

o Students will have to create the rules given an input and output
value for a sequence
o Students will be challenged to come up with a rule and a
sequence to see if their partner can figure out
Homework:
Guess My Rule HISD worksheet
Materials:
Independent Practice Packet, Minute 26, Guess My Rule Activity Sheet
Differentiation:
 Students will be working in groups in order to provide extra
support
 Students will be creating their own rule at their own level of
difficulty and will be paired with someone at about their level
Thursday 11/17/11
1) Do Now (2 Word Problems, 2 Skill Review)
2) Review Homework Questions
3) Class Trip (Function Machine)
o Students will start with a word problem and create a rule using
the function machine, input, and output table.
o They will graph the function on paper.
4) Minute 27
5) WLT Phone Plan Problem
o Students will start with a word problem and create a rule using
the function machine, input, and output table.
o They will also graph the function created on large graph paper
