ESSAY WRITING

Requirements:
regular attendance (missing more than 3 classes automatically results in failing the
course)
participation in class discussion
two essays (350 words each, handed in on the dates specified below)
one re-written essay (the first home essay must be re-written after I give back the
corrected papers, unless the grade on the original essay is better than 3)
one in-class essay
other pieces of written homework (outlines, introductions, paragraphs etc.) as specified
in class
occasional quizzes (specified in class)
Assessment will be based on the essays and re-writes (60%) as well as on the other written homework, the
quizzes and other class activities (40%). Note, however, that failure to write either of the home essays
or the re-write of the first or the in-class essay will automatically result in failing the course! Note also
that timing is crucially important! Even if you cannot come to the class send in your homework on the
day required!

Note that the tasks below constitute only part of the requirements. Homework will be regularly given on the
handouts that I provide for each class. It is, therefore, crucial that you always get hold of a copy of the
handout. Should you miss a class, please ask someone for a photocopy of the handout and do your
homework. If you cannot find anyone who has the handout, please send me an e-mail and I will mail a copy.
