Guide for Nominating an Item to the Palerang Heritage List The following sets out basic information you need for nominating a heritage item to Palerang Council. The NSW Heritage Manual 2 – Assessing heritage significance (refer web-link back page) provides detailed instruction and examples. Name of Place: Previous/Other Names: Owner's name/s: Lot and Section no Type of Item: Building, structure, group, feature, complex, area, landscape as related to a theme such as a 19th century pastoral property, an early 20th century mining site. Curtilage/Boundary of proposed heritage area: o Provide Lot and Section Number and Street address. For a landscape, provide a map such as a Google map with the heritage area plotted Why do you think the place might have heritage significance? Does it demonstrate values such as: o Social – social or spiritual meaning o Aesthetic—aesthetic characteristics o Scientific—natural or cultural scientific features o History—natural or cultural historic characteristics Criteria for determining potential significance are listed on page 12 of the NSW Heritage Manual Historical Information: o o o o o o o Describe the scale, fabric, form, style, particular features of buildings, structures. Describe the landscape setting of the item covering garden, streetscape, townscape, rural, and land-use patterns. Describe the existing landscape features, topography, landform, vegetation, views, vistas, particular natural features. Special associations: Address: o Description: Note the history of the item; when it was built, who built it and how it has been used. Note associations with a particular event, theme of history or activity of importance in the region. Note important people or groups of people associated with the item. For natural landscapes note the history of changes and land use. How the place is used. o Strong attachments the community may have to the item. o Special associations to an Indigenous community Condition: Describe the condition of the item, particularly any damage to its heritage features and the date of the damage.
