Speak out praise to God individually in the group and have the group agree, regarding who God is.. in
your life.
Engage the Truth – Who is God?
1. The Only God
“9 Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and
there is none like me. 10 I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to
come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.” Isaiah 46:9, 10, NIV.
“17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever.
Amen.” 1 Timothy 1:17, NIV.



How was it for you when you realized who God was?
What “gods” challenge us in our own life?
How do you practically honor God as the “only” God in your life?
2. The Eternal God
“28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends
of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no-one can fathom.” Isaiah 40:28,
NIV.
“8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the
Almighty.”” Revelation 1:8, NIV.


How does the eternal nature of God influence all areas of your thinking?
Describe and discuss the “cosmological argument” below?
o Things exist
o It’s possible for those things not to exist
o Nothing can cause itself to exist
o Everything that begins to exist must have a cause
o The universe began to exist- it must have had a cause
o An infinite regression of causes ultimately has no initial cause and thus does not exist
o Therefore there must be an uncaused cause of all things
o The uncaused cause must be immaterial, timeless, and all powerful
o We call that being or entity God
o
The God of the Bible fits this description exactly
3. The Creator
“1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1, NIV.
“3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was
not made out of what was visible.” Hebrews 11:3, NIV.

Why do you think that God being the Creator is such an attacked concept? Discuss the attacks
you are most familiar with.

If God had the power to create like described, how does that influence your experience with
Him?
4. The Triune God (supporting – Mk. 12:29, Col. 2:9, Heb. 1:3, 1 Cor. 12:4-6
“14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
be with you all.” 2 Corinthians 13:14, NIV.
“19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit,” Matthew 28:19, NIV.

3. How do you resolve the unanswered mystery of the trinity in your faith?
5. The “OMNI” God
“8 O LORD God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds
you.” Psalms 89:8, NIV. – The OMNI-potent God
“8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.” Psalms
139:8, NIV. – The OMNI-present God
“4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.” Psalms 139:4, NIV. – The OMNIscient God
“7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God..” 1 John 4:7, NIV – The OMNIbenevolent God

What does Eric mean by God is “concurrent” in all these as well as other attributes?

How do you find conflicts in your mortal thinking with all these attributes being 100% all the
time in God and still no contradictions?
6. The Personal God
“27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he
created them.” Genesis 1:27, NIV.

How would you describe a “personal” God to someone who does not know Him?

What are the implications of us being created in “His own image”?
6. The Intimate God
“1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And
that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” 1 John 3:1,
NIV.
“17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But
you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” John 14:17, NIV.


How have you experienced the lavish love of God in your life?
What are the implications of know God and having Him “live in us”?

Faith in this God, is essential to living in the blessings of God and pleasing Him as His child. How do you need
to grow so you can trust Him with the circumstances of your life, the future, and the people and things you
think are important?
Turn to God

Spend time lifting up the name of Jesus describing Him and His attributes that people mentioned are a
struggle for them. Pray and contend for a breakthrough in these areas tonight!
