We want all of our students to have a plan and be on the path to reach their goals. Don’t forget, once those acceptance letters and financial aid packages start rolling in; come tell Ms. Khan in the Guidance office! For scholarship information, please see Ms. Gordineer in the Guidance office! Senior Grades Counselors mailed home letters to seniors failing a class needed for graduation. If you have any concern or question about your child’s graduation status, please reach out to a School Counselor. Senioritis is real- please stay on top of your students and make sure they are keeping up with grades and attendance. It is not just a myth, colleges do revoke admission and scholarships based on senior year grades. Teachers are putting together student course recommendations and will submit to the Counseling Department at the end of the month. Starting in April, counselors will meet with students to determine appropriate class placements and elective requests for next year. School Counseling Newsletter Page 2 SAT/ACT Information Juniors! The time has come to sign up for the SAT/ACT! We encourage all juniors to take the test at the end of junior year. This maximizes your chances of re-taking at the start of senior year if you want to improve your scores. There are only 2 dates left this school year! Sophomores! Are you currently in Algebra II/Trig? This is the perfect opportunity to take the SAT while the material is fresh. Make sure to sign up. Parents, if your child qualifies for free and reduced lunch, the School Counseling department is able to give your child a fee waiver to take the SAT or ACT for free! Fee waivers also allow students to submit free applications for college! Please complete and submit a Free and Reduced Lunch form to determine eligibility. It is time to start making decisions about plans for after high school, believe us, it will come before you know it! If you are planning on college, here are a few things to do before the start of senior year. 1. Sign up for the SAT or ACT THIS YEAR! Don’t wait until senior year. This will give you the opportunity to test again if you are not happy with the results. 2. Start thinking about what you want to study. There are quite a few interest inventories and career assessments online. Try one out and see what areas are right for you. Stressed out??!!!! 3. Research colleges. www.collegeboard.org has a great search engine to narrow down colleges by major, location, GPA requirements, etc. Here are a few strategies to help cope with stress. 4. Volunteer. It’s not too late to give back to your community. 1. Exercise. 2. Use an agenda to organize activities. 3. Prioritize your time. 4. Make a list of what needs to be accomplished. Check them off. 5. You can do this Think positively. 5. Get involved. Join a club or find a job. Colleges want to see that students are involved in more than academics. Don’t panic, Counselors are here to help! Starting in May, we will meet with students and parents in small groups to discuss the college process and post-secondary planning. Keep an eye out for a letter home with your assigned date and time.
