Senior Class
Seniors, if you have not met with your
counselor to discuss plans for after high
school, please go to the Counseling office and
schedule an appointment immediately! We
want all of our students to have a plan and be
on the path to reach their goals.
Don’t forget, once those acceptance letters
and financial aid packages start rolling in;
come tell Ms. Khan in the Guidance office!
For scholarship information, please see Ms.
Gordineer in the Guidance office!
Senior Grades
Counselors mailed home letters to seniors
failing a class needed for graduation. If you
have any concern or question about your
child’s graduation status, please reach out
to a School Counselor.
Senioritis is real- please stay on top of your
students and make sure they are keeping
up with grades and attendance. It is not
just a myth, colleges do revoke admission
and scholarships based on senior year
grades.

Scheduling 2014-2015
Although it seems like 2014 just started, it is
time to think about the 2014-2015 school
year! Teachers are putting together student
course recommendations and will submit to
the Counseling Department at the end of the
month. Starting in April, counselors will meet
with students to determine appropriate class
placements and elective requests for next
year.

SAT/ACT Information
Juniors! The time has come to sign up
for the SAT/ACT! We encourage all
juniors to take the test at the end of
junior year. This maximizes your
chances of re-taking at the start of
senior year if you want to improve your
scores. There are only 2 dates left this
school year!
Sophomores! Are you currently in Algebra
II/Trig? This is the perfect opportunity
to take the SAT while the material is
fresh. Make sure to sign up.
Parents, if your child qualifies for free
and reduced lunch, the School
Counseling department is able to give
your child a fee waiver to take the SAT
or ACT for free! Fee waivers also allow
students to submit free applications for
college! Please complete and submit a
Free and Reduced Lunch form to
determine eligibility. For more
information, speak with a School
Counselor.
Want to practice?! Free Practice Tests at
the Peekskill Field Library. Call to sign
up for the next session on April 26th @

Juniors- Interested in College?
It is time to start making decisions about
plans for after high school, believe us, it will
come before you know it! If you are
planning on college, here are a few things
to do before the start of senior year.
1. Sign up for the SAT or ACT THIS
YEAR! Don’t wait until senior year.
This will give you the opportunity to
test again if you are not happy with
the results.
2. Start thinking about what you want
to study. There are quite a few
interest inventories and career
assessments online. Try one out and
see what areas are right for you.
Stressed out??!!!!
3. Research colleges.
www.collegeboard.org has a great
search engine to narrow down
colleges by major, location, GPA
requirements, etc.
Here are a few strategies to help
cope with stress.
4. Volunteer. It’s not too late to give
back to your community.
1. Exercise.
2. Use an agenda to organize
activities.
3. Prioritize your time.
4. Make a list of what needs to be
accomplished. Check them off.
5. You can do this  Think
positively.
5. Get involved. Join a club or find a
job. Colleges want to see that
students are involved in more than
academics.
Don’t panic, Counselors are here to help!
Starting in May, we will meet with students
and parents in small groups to discuss the
college process and post-secondary
planning. Keep an eye out for a letter home
with your assigned date and time.
