IUPUI RECEIVES INSIGHT INTO DIVERSITY
2015 HIGHER EDUCATION EXCELLENCE IN DIVERSITY (HEED) AWARD
On September 15, 2015, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) received the 2015 Higher Education
Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused
publication in higher education. As a recipient of the annual HEED Award — a national honor recognizing U.S. colleges and
universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion — IUPUI will be featured, along with 91
other recipients, including Indiana University Bloomington, in the November 2015 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity
magazine. This is the 4
th
consecutive year IUPUI has been named as a HEED Award recipient.
INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine selected IUPUI through a rigorous application process in which the campus
demonstrated a continued commitment to enhancing diversity and community engagement—two key aspects included in
IUPUI’s strategic plan and noted in its mission and vision statements. Multiple initiatives were cited as contributing to
IUPUI’s receipt of the HEED award including a thriving Multicultural Center with inclusive programming, the presence of
the Adaptive Educational Services Office, the convening of the Chancellor’s Diversity Cabinet and the introduction of a
new LGBTQ Student Services Center in spring 2016.
