Strategic Planning The goals that were set by officers this year were to: 1. Continue and expand service to the community for Rho Chi members 2. Continue and expand service to our school for Rho Chi members 3. Plan induction ceremony and poster symposium 4. Plan fundraising events in order to send Rho Chi members to the Annual Meeting Activities: Fundraising Events: This year our chapter was able to organize several fundraising events in order to send one member of Rho Chi to the Annual Meeting in San Diego, California. We held two Trivia Nights at a local restaurant in which teams of students and faculty were able to complete for various prizes. Poster Presentation: The 4th Annual Rho Chi Poster Symposium was held on April 30, 2015 at St. John Fisher College. There were 14 posters presented at this year’s event from students and faculty from within our school. The posters represented both student/faculty research collaborations and health outreach posters. The posters presented this year were as follows: Altered cell-surface receptor levels result from fructose advanced glycation end productinduced inflammation. Educating Pharmacists and the Public about the Role of Over-the-Counter Medications in the Management of Autism Spectrum Disorders Development and implementation of peer-led weekly review sessions and the assessment of their impact on student learning. Safety of Popular Herbal Supplements in Lactating Women: An Evidence-Based Review. Analyzing pain medication use and adherence in patients with myotonic dystrophy (DM) and facioscapulohumeral dystrophy (FSHD). An Examination of the Effects of Atorvastatin and Parathyroid Hormone on Osteoblast Activity. Guest Satisfaction Survey on Programming and Guest Services Provided at Hope Lodge Hospitality House: A Service Learning Project. Refugee patients at risk for hypertension in Rochester, NY: a comparative study. Identification of plant-based environmental neurotoxins towards understanding the etiology of neurodegenerative disorders. Impact of a pharmacist and nurse led clinic on patient blood pressure control. A Look into the Future of Vaccines. Novel Cancer Therapy. Therapeutic and Prophylactic Vaccines against Cancer. Molecular Pharming. School Service: This year, Rho Chi members were able to provide service to our school during the interview process for potential new Doctor of Pharmacy students. Rho Chi members gave interviewees tours of the school and then took the interviewees to lunch while they were visiting the school. This provided a good opportunity for Rho Chi members to answer questions and discuss our school with potential students. Financial/Budgeting: Wegmans School of Pharmacy has a standardized budget allotted for each student organization. As the Delta Zeta Chapter of the Rho Chi Honor Society, we receive $855 each academic year. As of May 7, 2015 our current balance is $1,821.18. This year the major expense included Rho Chi cords for our graduates and paid annual dues ($1,317.50). We received standardized budget ($1,040.00 and $855.00) from Wegmans School of Pharmacy. In addition to major funds, we raised $350.00 from Trivia night and $36.00 from raffle donation event. To help offset the cost of the induction ceremony, guests, faculty and current Rho Chi members paid $12.00 to attend (no fee for inductees and current officers). Initiation Function: The induction ceremony was held on March 31, 2015. We inducted the new members of Rho Chi and the incoming officers were sworn in. Our keynote speaker was Lauren Gashlin, Pharm.D., who holds the title of a pharmacist at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Gashlin graduated from The Wegmans School of Pharmacy and was a member and officer for our inaugural Rho Chi class. Dr. Gashlin was able to share her experiences as a pharmacist, having a memorable impact. Evaluation/Reflection: This past year has been a busy year for our chapter. We continued past activities such as the induction ceremony and the poster presentation. We held several fundraising events, we had active involvement in our school and we laid the groundwork for upcoming Rho Chi members to continue to build our chapter. We were able to send a Rho Chi member to the Annual Meeting and we hope that more members will attend next year’s Annual Meeting. The hard work of our officers, as well as commitment from all our current members has helped to make this an active Rho Chi chapter and we look forward to its continued growth.
