October 20-23, 2015 Weekly Class News From the third grade classrooms at AEMS Reading Vocabulary: Math Vocabulary: deliberately- to do something carefully and with purpose. composed- to make by combining things, parts or elements. gratitude- feeling grateful or thankful. compassion- to be kind to someone who needs help. swift- to move quickly. vain- to think very highly of oneself. overheard- to hear people talking when they don’t know you are listening. suggested- to give someone an idea to consider. enormous- something that is very large. exclaimed- to say something in an excited manner. Multiplication- mathematical operation that consists of adding a number to itself a specified number of times. repeated addition- adding the same number again and again in order to find the answer to a multiplication problem. arrays- items arranged in rows and columns. commutative (order) property of multiplication- factors can be multiplied in any order and the product will be the same. factors- numbers that are multiplied together to form a product. product- the answer to a multiplication equation. zero property of multiplication- states that the product of any factor and zero is zero. identity property- a factor multiplied by zero keeps its identity (stays the same). Social Studies Vocabulary: Erosion- causing the coastal wetland to slowly disapper. scarcity- there is not enough of something to meet all of people’s wants and needs. conserve- to use resources carefully. abundance- there is more than enough of something. wildlife- animals and plants that live in the wild. Natural resource- material found in nature that people can use.
