Policies and Procedures for 1:1 iPad Program Beulah Public Schools Beulah Public School grades 5-12 will be offering students Apple iPad devices for use at school and at home. In grades five and six, iPads are taken home only at the discretion of the classroom teacher. The 1:1 iPad Program has been designed to enhance the delivery and individualization of instruction for the students using 21st Century Skills. Effective teaching and learning with iPads integrates technology into the curriculum and allows students the opportunity for “high levels of learning for all”. 1. Receiving and Returning the iPad 1.1 Receiving the iPad ● iPads will be distributed by classroom/homebase teacher or tech dept. Parents and students must sign and return copies of the following documents before receiving their iPad: ○ iPad Policy and Procedure Form ○ Beulah School District Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) 1.2 iPad Return ● Middle school student iPads and accessories will be returned during the final week of school to classroom/homebase teacher to be inspected for damage or policy violations. ● High school students will return their iPad and accessories to the tech department. ● If a student leaves the Beulah Public School District during the year they must return their iPad on the date of withdrawal. 1.3 Return Fines ● If the iPad and accessories are returned with any damage, the student/parent will be responsible for any damage consistent with the District Protection Plan as listed in Section 7. ● Failure to return the iPad will result in a theft report being filed with the Mercer County Sheriff or Beulah Police Department. The student/parent may be subject to criminal prosecution or civil liability. 2. Taking Care of the iPad Students are responsible for general care of the iPad issued by the school. iPads that are broken or fail to work properly need to fill out iPad Claim report: ● 5-8 student report problems to their classroom/homebase teacher. Teachers will assist them in filling out iPad Claim report form and give form to tech dept. ● 9-12 students will report problem to the tech department in the HS library or front office and fill out iPad Claim report. 2.1 General Precautions ● The iPad is school property and all users will follow this policy and the AUP for technology. ● Only use a clean, soft cloth to clean the screen, no cleansers of any type. ● Cords and cables must be inserted carefully into the iPad to prevent damage. ● iPad and case must remain free of any writing, drawing. Stickers and labels must be approved by classroom teacher. ● iPad must never be left in an unattended or unsupervised area. ● Do NOT leave iPad in a place that is experiencing extreme hot or cold conditions (i.e. car in summer or winter). Extreme heat will damage the unit itself and extreme cold will cause severe screen damage. ● When students are not using their iPads, they should be stored in their locker or kept with the student. Nothing should be placed on top of the iPad when stored in student lockers. ● Limit the number of items carried within a backpack with the iPad to limit the amount of pressure applied to the iPad screen. ● ● ● Avoid bumping the iPad against any surface. Students must keep their iPad in the protective case unless removal is directed by a teacher. iPad cases furnished by the school district must be returned with only normal wear and no alterations to avoid paying a sleeve replacement fee. ● Students may purchase a more durable cover at their own expense. 3. Using the iPad at School iPads are intended for use at school each day. In addition to teacher expectations for iPad use, school messages, announcements, calendars, and schedules may be accessed using the iPad. Students must be responsible to bring their iPad to all classes, unless specifically instructed not to do so by their teacher. The iPad is the property of Beulah Public School. Therefore, school staff and administration have the right to check any material stored on a student’s iPad at any time. 3.1 iPads Left at Home ● If students leave their iPad at home, they are responsible for getting the course work completed as if they had their iPad present. ● If students repeatedly leaves their iPads at home, they will be required to “check out” their iPads from the classroom teacher per policy. 3.2 iPad Undergoing Repair ● A replacement iPad will be issued to students when their deductible has been paid. There may be a delay in getting an iPad should the school not have enough to replace. 3.3 Charging the iPad’s Battery ● Charging of the iPad is the student’s responsibility. The iPad must be brought to school each day in a fully charged state. 3.4 Sound, Music, Games or Programs ● Students are required to have their own headphones or earbuds. ● Music is allowed on the iPad using headphones per teacher discretion. 3.5 Printing ● Printing may not be available from the iPad. ● Email or other cloud-based apps will be used to send information to be printed. 4. Managing Files & Saving Work 4.1 Saving Work ● Students may save work to the iPad on a limited basis. ● Specific projects may be uploaded to a variety of places as specified by teachers. ● Any data on the iPad will not be backed up. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that important work be stored at another location. ○ iPad malfunctions are not an acceptable excuse for not submitting work. 4.2 Network Connectivity ● Beulah Public School makes no guarantee that the network will be up and running 100% of the time. In the rare case that the network is down, the district will not be responsible for lost or missing data. 5. Software on iPads 5.1 Software/Apps ● The software/apps originally installed by Beulah Public School must remain on the iPad in usable condition and be easily accessible at all times. ● From time to time the school may add software applications for use in a particular course. ● ● ● Students are allowed to load school appropriate software/apps on their iPads. Beulah Public School will synchronize the iPads to update school provided apps. Students will be required to update their personal apps. 5.2 Procedure for Re-loading Software ● If there is a malfunction or other problem with the iPad, it will be restored from backup to its original state. ● The school does not accept responsibility for the loss of any software or documents deleted due to a reformatting. ● Students will be expected to update the OS on their own time. 6. Acceptable Use The use of Beulah Public School’s technology resources is a privilege, not a right. If a person violates any of the User Terms and Conditions named in this policy, privileges may be terminated, access to the school district technology resources may be denied, and the appropriate disciplinary action shall be applied. The Beulah Public School’s Acceptable Use Policy as well as the Student Handbook shall be applied to student infractions. Violations may result in disciplinary actions up to and including suspension/expulsion for students. When applicable, law enforcement agencies may be involved. ● iPads may be randomly inspected to check for policy compliance. 6.1 Parent/Guardian Responsibilities ● Talk to your children about values and standards that they should follow using the iPad. 7. School District Protection Plan 7.1 Filing a Claim ● All protection plan claims for accidental damage, maintenance, lost or stolen iPads must be reported to the tech department by filling out an iPad Claim form.
