Pokémon is a Nintendo game that was made by Game Freak. The Pokémon director is Junichi Masuda. Just by the name, Pokémon was first made in Japan. This essay isn’t about the history of Pokémon, but it’s about the most recent Pokémon game, Pokémon X and Y. Pokémon has been innovating a lot, and this game really gave a new look to Pokémon, from a 2D game, to a 3D game. I chose to write an investigation of this game specifically because I really enjoy playing this game, and I really want to write about the history of the game itself. Looking back at the history of Pokémon, the games were all in 2D, from the Nintendo Gameboy, to the Nintendo DS, but in Pokémon X and Y, it’s played in the Nintendo 3DS; so now you can see the Pokémon world in a whole new way. You even could see your Pokémon in a completely different way. In the previous games, you can only see your Pokémon as a 2D Pokémon that couldn’t really do much, and now, Pokémon X and Y allows you’re Pokémon to move around when performing a technique. The theme of this game is beauty, and the region’s name, Kilos, means beauty in Greek. The map of this game and the cities were inspired by France, since it’s the most visited country, and is beautiful in general. Also, because Masuda loved France, and so, that was the reason why Pokémon X and Y’s map is based on France. Pokémon X and Y had really evolved since the first Pokémon game was made. One of the improvements was adding the “Pokémon Amie” feature added in Pokémon X and Y. In the new Pokémon Amie, you can see how cute you Pokémon could really be, and that grants some in-battle benefits to you. So this is a good thing since you can feed and play with your Pokémon, but also gain some in game benefits, like bonus damage and health. Another addition feature that was added in Pokémon X and Y is the “Super Training” feature. This feature and really push your Pokémon to be stronger, without really leveling that Pokémon up to level 100. Training your Pokémon to level 100 would be really tough, and would take a really long time, while the Pokémon’s stats would go up evenly. With “Super Training”, you could focus specifically on one stat like only focusing on your attack damage and your special attack damage only. So instead of leveling up you Pokémon to level 100, you can now focus on their individual stats to raise that Pokémon in whatever way you want The last addition to this game has to offer is the new Pokémon type, the Fairy type. To all the Pokémon players out there, you all know that the Dragon type is a little too overpowered with their overall stats and moves, knowing that their only common weakness is Ice types and Dragon types. So this new addition of Fairy type would even out the chances of beating a team of Dragon types, without really having to lose most of you Pokémon. With a new addition of the Fairy type, experienced Pokémon players should relearn their type weaknesses and resistances, which sometimes could be a pain in the neck. This game had come a long way; it has innovated so much since the first Pokémon games. The game has transformed from and black and white, 2D game, to a colorful, 3D world, with great designs within a game. Junichi Masuda has combined this Kalos region, with France, which really shows the beauty of the Pokémon world. Mentioning about the Pokémon now, there literally 718 Pokémon in total. This region had added 68 brand new Pokémon. Although it’s not really a big number, the graphic and gameplay are so phenomenal, you wouldn’t really care about how many Pokémon there are. The gameplay and graphics will blow up away with 3D. Work Cited: Campbell, Collins. A picture of the Kalos Region Map of Pokemon X and Y. Digital image. Polygon. Vox Media, 5 July 2013.
