Moving from Middle to Senior Leadership 2015 - 2016 Introduction As part of the NCTL drive to secure succession planning for the school leaders of the future, this new course is aimed at supporting the transition from middle to senior leadership. This course is different from the NPQSL qualification so can complement previous study. It will be based on learning about the role and skills for being a senior leader. The Programme There will be three face to face sessions on the following dates: 11th January 2016 at The Queen Katherine School, Kendal, LA9 6PJ 11th March 2016 venue to be confirmed once we know the geographical base for delegates 22nd June 2016 – venue to be confirmed once we know the geographical base for delegates There will be an additional visit day to another school in order to shadow a senior leader during a day. There will also be the opportunity for feedback on a draft letter of application for an SLT post. The Participants Must be a middle leader Must have an aspiration to move to a next stage promotion or to apply for a recognised senior leadership programme within 12-18 months of completing the programme Must have a willingness to be contacted so that long term impact can be measured Applications are welcomed from any age phase or subject, should there be more than 20 applicants priority may be given for women into secondary leadership, BME leaders, those in hard to recruit areas such as rural, coastal or faith settings. Funding The programme is fully funded by the NCTL and is offering 20 places as part of an equality and diversity grant, however if you enrol but then fail to attend, your school will be charged £50.00 for each session you fail to attend. Programme Outline We intend that the following activities will take place throughout the programme: Coaching and mentoring session/s with an experienced senior leader Work shadowing a senior leader in a different school A variety of leadership sessions linked to needs from diagnostic assessment, identifying the differences between being a middle and senior leader and supporting you in developing those skills and knowledge required to lead across the school. Having a senior leader mentor / feedback on a letter of application for a senior leadership role A short written case study on an aspect of leadership development and its impact. All case studies will contribute to a research paper to be published on the Teaching School website and shared with all delegates on the course.
