President Opportunities: – The past years ISA Presidents have won the prestigious Homer Higbee International Award. – They have developed valuable skills in leadership, including public speaking and writing funding proposals. Responsibilities: - Overseeing and maintaining ISA’s activities and events by working closely with eboard members. - Being supportive to ISA officers to encourage them staying on task. - Ensuring duties are carried out for positions that are non-functional for reasons of health, academics, or void on the e-board, if necessary by filling in the position temporarily. - To pursue the Purpose of the Organization of ISA by closely following the Strategic Plan of ISA - To expand ISA's outreach by means of communicating with Michigan State University departments and other student organizations. Vice-President Opportunities: – Students who held this position during previous years have been able to develop their leadership skills. – One is expected to develop other skills like public speaking, communication, and networking. Responsibilities: – Working closely with the E-board (especially the President) to help with the decision-making and the pursuit of the Purpose of the Organization of ISA. – Ensuring communication within the board for tasks to be fulfilled in a timely manner. – Outreach to campus resources (including departments and other student groups). - Assist the President to maintain ISA activities and convene ISA meetings. - Assume Presidential Charge in the absence of the ISA President. Secretary Opportunities: – Students holding this position form the link between ISA’s past and future by providing the meeting minutes. – Through this role, they develop leadership and writing skills. Responsibilities: – Typing out meeting minutes and sending them to the board and volunteers in a timely manner. – Collaborating with directors of public relations and events for managing: ISA’s list-serve, Google group, website, Facebook page, and Twitter account. - Creating meeting agendas, sending out weekly emails/reminders, and creating/updating an e-board contact sheet - Archive all records regularly. Treasurer Opportunities: – Students who held this position during previous years got the opportunity to apply and build upon their classroom knowledge of financial management and accounting. – They developed leadership skills, including high accountability and fiscal responsibility. Responsibilities: – Overseeing ISA’s account, including providing monthly financial statements. – Applying for funding from on-campus resources and managing receipts and reimbursements (Often in collaboration with ASMSU Programming Board Representative). – Collaborating with other board members for conducting effective financial planning, procurement, and Investment of funds for the organization. Assistant Treasurer Opportunities: – Students who held this position during previous years got the opportunity to apply and build upon their classroom knowledge of financial management and accounting. – They developed leadership skills, including high accountability and fiscal responsibility. Responsibilities: – Assisting the Treasurer in management of ISA’s account – Assisting the Treasurer in applications for funding from on-campus resources and managing receipts and reimbursements – Collaborating with other board members for conducting effective financial planning, procurement, and investment of funds for the organization Director of Events Opportunities: – Students holding this position get to explore campus resources in order to organize ISA events. – They develop a network with other student leaders on campus through coorganizing their events with ISA. – From these experiences, they develop communication and organizational skills. – They also develop decision-making, leadership, and teamwork skills. Responsibilities: – Organizing ISA events by first developing event’s outline according to its goals and purposes, and then planning and allocating resources accordingly. – Exploring and securing various on and off campus service and/or resources to be put to use for ISA events. – Enlisting volunteers and coordinating them to assist in planning and organizing events. – Working closely with the Directors of Public Relations in promoting events. – Working closely with the Treasurer in developing events budget and assisting in fundraising. Assistant Director of Events Opportunities: – Students holding this position get to explore campus resources in order to organize ISA events. – They develop a network with other student leaders on campus through coorganizing their events with ISA. – From these experiences, they develop communication and organizational skills. – They also develop decision-making, leadership, and teamwork skills. Responsibilities: – Assisting the event coordination specifically in communication with performers, volunteers, and outside resources, and also by sharing the workload of the Director of Events. – Working closely with the Directors of Public Relations in promoting events online and in residence halls. – Working closely with the Treasurer in developing events budget and assisting in fundraising. - Recruiting and coordinating volunteers for ISA sponsored events and activities. Director of Public Relations Opportunities: – Students who held this position during previous years got the opportunity to apply and build upon their classroom knowledge of effective communication, event planning and promotion, as well as website development. – They develop a network with other student leaders on campus through promoting ISA events. – From these experiences, they develop public speaking, communication, and organizational skills. – They also develop writing, web- and paper-based promotion skills. Responsibilities: – Developing strategies to promote ISA events. – Managing ISA’s list-serve, email account, Google group, website, Facebook page, and Twitter account. – Communicating with ISA members through weekly e-mails, Facebook, and Twitter. – Designing and drafting publicity materials for events (fliers, posters, the ISA brochure & newsletter). – Acting as a liaison between ISA and international students, other international student groups on campus, academic departments, and the East Lansing community. - Establish and maintain a working relationship with local media (newspapers, radio, etc.). Assistant Director of Public Relations Opportunities: – Students holding this position get to explore campus resources in order to organize ISA events. – They develop a network with other student leaders on campus through coorganizing their events with ISA. – From these experiences, they develop public speaking, communication, and organizational skills. – They also develop writing, promotion, and teamwork skills. Responsibilities: – Assisting the event promotion specifically in designing publicity materials and online publicity, and also by sharing the workload of the Director of Public Relations. – Managing ISA’s list-serve, email account, Google group, website, Facebook page, and Twitter account. – Acting as a liaison between ISA and international students, other international student groups on campus, academic departments, and the East Lansing community. COGS Representative (Open only to graduate students) Opportunities: – Students holding this position gain knowledge on different campus resources – They get the chance to network with leaders from other student groups. – They get the opportunity to help make changes and put forward initiatives on a university level. Responsibilities: – Representing international students in COGS Full Council and reporting to the ISA board in a timely manner. - Reporting COGS information to ISA E-Board and general members. – Presenting bills for funding proposals on behalf of ISA and affiliates. – Working closely with other board members to discuss and help with issues within ISA, voice concerns, etc. ASMSU Programming Board Representatives (Open only to undergraduate students) (2 Positions) Opportunities: – The Programming Board allocates more than a quarter-million dollars annually to a wide range of events including, but not limited to, concerts, speakers, and crosscultural programs for students at MSU. – Students holding this position gain knowledge on different campus resources. – They get the chance to network with leaders from other student groups. – They also get the opportunity to apply and build upon their classroom knowledge of financial management. – From these experiences, they develop public speaking and writing skills. Responsibilities: – Attending all the Programming Board Meetings (Tuesdays or Wednesdays from about 7 pm to 10 pm) on behalf of ISA. – Clearly articulating ISA’s position with regards to policies and report to the ISA board in a timely manner. – Presenting funding and other bills on behalf of ISA and affiliates. – Collaborating with the treasurer for conducting effective financial planning, procurement, and investment of funds for the events organized by ISA and affiliates. ASMSU Representative (Open only to undergraduate students) Opportunities: – The Student Representative to the ASMSU acts as the student voice on such issues as tuition, textbook costs, state and federal government appropriations, scheduling, curriculum, athletics and University Academic Governance. – Students holding this position gain knowledge on different campus resources. – They get the chance to network with leaders from other student groups. – They increase their involvement in student affairs by helping increase student awareness. – From these experiences, they develop public speaking skills, listening skills, evaluating and decision-making skills. Responsibilities: – Attending General Meetings (currently on Thursdays at 7pm) on behalf of ISA. – Clearly articulating ISA’s position with regards to policies and report to the ISA board in a timely manner. – Must be vocal, willing to speak to an audience of over 50 people every week, and network with other groups. - Join the committee to enhance ISA’s knowledge about events happening on campus. RHA Representatives (2 Positions) Opportunities: – Students holding this position get to explore campus resources in order to organize ISA events. – They develop a network with other student leaders on campus through coorganizing their events with ISA. – From these experiences, they develop communication and organizational skills. – They also develop decision-making, leadership, and teamwork skills. Responsibilities: - Work with RHA and its constituents group to promote and raise awareness for ISA and international students’ needs and concerns - Mandatory attendance at RHA General Assembly Meetings. - Report RHA information to the ISA E-Board and general members. - Represent ISA’s and its members’ interests and voice their opinions and concerns. - Mandatory attendance at the RHA Committee Meetings.
