I.
GRADING:
A. 25% of your course grade in CHEM 1411/CHEM 1412 comes from the total
laboratory grade.
Course Score = 0.25 (Lab Grade) + 0.75 (Lecture Exams & Homework)
B. The total laboratory grade will be composed of the following:
 80% Individual experiment scores
 20% Laboratory Final Exam
Lab Score = 0.20 (Lab Final Exam) + 0.80 (Avg. of Experiment Scores)
C. Individual experiment scores are derived from the following:
 20 pts - Prelab On-line Quiz
 10 pts - Prelab Questions
 70 pts - Report & Post-Lab Questions
Experiment Score = (0.20) Prelab Quiz + (0.10) Prelab Questions + (0.70) Report
D. Additional Comments
1. For labs without experiments, a Worksheet will count as the lab grade.
2. There will be NO make-up labs; however, one individual experiment grade
will be dropped.
3. Missed lab counts as a “zero.”
4. If you are asked to leave a lab, that lab will necessarily be scored as a zero,
and that score will not be eligible to serve as the "dropped" experiment grade.
5. No student will receive credit for a lab which he/she did not both attend and
participate.
II.
GENERIC LABORATORY DAY
1. Roll call; all documents due that week (see next section) collected
2. Mini-lecture on the current week's experiment
3. Perform current week's experiment

III.
THREE KEY COMPONENTS FOR INDIVIDUAL EXPERIMENTS
A. Assignments – three items are due EACH WEEK
1. Quiz – due prior to start of lab, and within the established time frame.
(CAVEAT: You will NOT be allowed attend lab without having completed the
quiz.)
2. Prelab Questions (from lab manual) – due prior to start of lab / roll call.
3. Report
The "Report" document is composed of two items
a) Report Form (in manual)
b) Post-lab Questions (in manual)
B. Q&A on the three components
1. Are the two paper documents handed in each week—the Prelab Questions
and the Report—for the current week's experiments?
NO . . .
a) Prelab Questions relate to the current week's experiment; however,
b) the Report relates to the previous week's experiment. (i.e., reports are
due one week in arrears, giving the student a week to compete the
required work.)
2. When should the paper documents be handed in?
a) Prelab Questions for the current week's experiment are due when you
walk into the lab.
b) The Report for the previous week's experiment is also due when you
walk into the lab
3. Are late documents accepted?
a) Documents turned in within one week of the due time will be accepted
with a 50% penalty.
b) No documents later than one week will be accepted, and will be
assessed a score of zero.
4. Are there any special handling procedures? YES, there are three . . .
a) STAPLES
 Any document consisting of more than one page should be
stapled. There is no obligation to score non-stapled pages
which get misplaced.
b) PAGE ORDERING
 The Report Form page(s) should be the first (top) page
 The Post Lab Questions page(s) should follow
 Any additional attachments, if applicable, should follow the
Post Lab Questions page.
c) TWO IDENTIFICATION MARKS
 Your called and last names (printed, or written readable)
 Lab Section Number (Letter A, B, C, D, or E)
 Note: Unless otherwise instructed, other information in the
heading can be disregarded. For example, the it is not

necessary to indicate the instructor's name, even if there is a
field for that purpose.
C. EXAMPLE Illustrating when Documents are due:
For an experiment scheduled for January 8th, and which follows an experiment run
on January 1st . . .
1. Due Jan 8th . . .
a) Prelab Quiz will have been completed for the current week's
experiment.
b) Prelab Questions for Jan 8th experiment will be handed in upon entry
into the lab
c) Report (Report Form & Postlab Questions) for Jan 1st experiment—
the previous week's experiment—will be handed in upon entry into the
lab.
D. All documents must be turn in to the instructor (unless otherwise directed.)
IV.
INDEPENDENT WORK IS REQUIRED
A. The ONLY information shared between assigned lab partners is the experimental
DATA.
B. Each student is expected to work independently (on his/her own) to provide the
following documents.
a) Prelab Quiz
b) Prelab Questions
c) Report Form & Postlab Questions
C. No student can receive credit for a lab which he/she did not both attend and
participate.
