While mono-disciplinary approaches remain limited due to their rigid boundaries, multi-disciplinary approaches have provided broader scopes to engulf different areas and eras of knowledge, which connect together to finally produce major breakthroughs. The case of phonetics is a good example to show the importance of multidisciplinary research. Phonetics has never been the monopoly of linguists or phoneticians as, indeed, phonetics has always been involved with other disciplines with the intention of finding answers to its own issues as well as those related to other fields of study. From this perspective, the Knowledge Integration and Translation Laboratory at the University of Cadi Ayad, Marakech, in collaboration with other organizing bodies, plans to hold a series of international scientific conferences to discuss, from a multidisiplinary stance, the relationship between phonetics and other speech and sound related areas such as music, Qiraat (readings), Tajweed (melodious recitation of Quraan), Rhetoric, stylistics, philosophy and Sufism. Owing to the profound relationship binding phonetics and music on both the problematic and inferential levels, the scientific committee has decided to dedicate its opening session to the subject of “Insterdisciplinarity between Music and phonetics”. The interconnectedness between phonetics and music is not only a necessity, it is a legitimate fact embodied by the intersections both subjects share in terms of issues, terminology and concepts. It is no surprise that Arab musicians such as Al Farabi (339 A.H.), Al Hassan Bin Ahmad Al Kateb (343 A.H.), Ibn Jinni (392 A.H.), Avicen (428 A.H.) contributed to the lifting of the veil on the connection and interdependence of the musical and linguistic aspects of the human voice. In fact, their books abound with immaculate ideas and effective associations that have greatly influenced the advancement of phonetics in the Arab and Islamic culture. www.diae.net شبكة ضياء للمؤمترات والدراسات The goals of the conference are: 1)To deepen and further research into the correlation between Phonetics and Music in theory and practice. 2)To draw on the Arabic phonetic knowledge in music and reproduce it in a more modern framework. 3)To gather the findings of phonetics in the field of music and make use of the findings of music in the field of phonetics to further the advancement of both fields and expand their horizons. 4)To identify intersections between phonetics and music. 5)To bridge the gap between traditional phonetics and music and the science of modern phonetics. Conference-related points to bear in mind -Background knowledge of interdisciplinarity between phonetics and music. -Commonality and interdependence between phonetics and musical terminology. -Rhythm in phonetics and music -The role of vowels in human voice and musical performance. -The pleasure of tunefulness and eloquence of intonation in music and phonetics. -Simulation in phonetics and music. -Sharpness and weightiness of sounds in phonetics and music. -Musical rhythm and intonation of speech. -The pleasure and corruption of the (musical eloquence) between the phonetic rhythm and composition. -Simulation between human emotions, musical performance and human speech.
