AFRICAN JOURNAL OF ECOLOGY AND ROYAL AFRICAN FOUNDATION (AJE & RAF) SCHOLARSHIPS Scholarship Description: Up to 2007, the East African Wild Life Society (EAWLS) used to support research grants to students to gather scientific information for its advocacy work. Proactive advocacy calls for generation of accurate data and information. Through a partnership with the Royal African Foundation and the African Journal of Ecology, the Society has established a scholarship programme at Masters Level. This partnership will encourage good environmental students to get attracted to working in wildlife and environment conservation areas. The EAWLS invites students pursuing or intending to pursue graduate studies in the following areas to apply for a scholarship to cover research work for up to 2 years. Forestry – with special focus on Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) in threatened forest ecosystems, Marine – with special focus on fisheries management and practices, preferably in Kenya’s South Coast, Wildlife – with special focus on threatened species and ecosystem management, Wetlands – with special focus on Yala, Tana Delta and other threatened wetlands Cross cutting – with focus on effects of large scale developments (as outlined in Kenya’s Vision 2030) on environmental sustainability of ecosystems. Scholarship Eligibility: Applications for AJE & RAF Scholarships are welcome from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The AJE board will conduct independent selection from any of the 3 countries. Applicant must have: An individual brief statement describing your interest for the course of ecological studies, unique educational experiences (e.g. special projects undertaken) and career plans. This statement should be no longer than one typed page, double-spaced. It should also cover how the study will be of interest to EAWLS work.
