EDUCATION PROGRAMME HELMET DESIGN COMPETITION Competition Guidelines General Information The Competition is open to students at schools, colleges and universities in the UK and to anyone being home-schooled. The competition is also being run for schools in the Northern Cape, South Africa. There will be one overall winner in the UK (and one overall winner from South Africa), picked from winning designs in each of the following age categories: Primary (Ages 4-11) Secondary (Ages 11-16) A-level, FE, HE (Age 16+) The Prizes The UK winner will see their helmet design adapted and painted onto a helmet, which will be worn by our driver, Andy Green, when he undertakes some of his runs in Bloodhound SSC. The winner will also be invited to attend one of the runs in the UK. In addition, the winning schools will receive a visit from the BLOODHOUND Education Team to experience a little bit of the Bloodhound Engineering adventure for themselves. Other age category winners will receive a signed poster and their school will receive a visit from the BLOODHOUND Education Team. Design Guidelines Designs should be completed using the Helmet Design Template. Students may use the design template in either A4 or A3 size as long as the proportions remain as per the original. The design must be completed with pencil, ink or paint. No items should be attached to the design, eg with glue or sticky tape. We are also happy to accept designs completed using computer design programmes/software. EDUCATION PROGRAMME Design Content Be creative! Have a look at the Bloodhound website for inspiration. And don’t worry about it being completely perfect - our fantastic helmet designers will be adapting the winners’ designs for painting. Your design should: match (or be compatible with) the BLOODHOUND SSC colours of blue and orange. identify (in some way) the vehicle as BLOODHOUND SSC and the driver as Andy Green incorporate a small ‘Arai’ logo on either side – you will see this on the template! Design Tips & Advice (from professional Helmet Designer, Jason Fowler) Remember – the helmet is 3D, so your shapes and lines will curve over and around. A shape on the back, for example, will also be visible from the side and the top – so this may affect your design. Some of the best designs have only 2, 3 or 4 colours, but maybe use different shades of these colours. This means more detail can be used without the helmet looking too busy. Very few colours used with a contrasting colour can work well. Submission Details & Dates Submissions should be made as either a hard copy to the address below or via email to helmetdesign@bloodhoundssc.com.
