Gambia Storage Additional Information The Gambia Groundnut Cooperation (GGC) is owned by the government and has warehouses located in various part of the country. One of their main warehouses is located at Denton Bridge only 5km away from the capital Banjul and easily accessible by trucks. There are 5 solidly built cement warehouse in this area with capacity of over 3,000 mt each and their general condition is in good state. The roofing and doors are secure and there is good ventilation, security service is available for 24 hour a day. Limited Pallets were seen on site and can be available for sale in the local market and the possibility to have them produced can also be explored. Shops selling pesticides and fumigants are available in the local market as well as officially licensed fumigators. GGC warehouse at Barra. This warehouse is in the North of the capital Banjul and is accessible by ferry. The warehouse location from the ferry terminal is half a kilometer distance. There are three warehouses of different capacities and the first one has six bins and each bin can accommodate up to 700 metric tons. The warehouse is fully operational only during the months of December to June. For the remaining months they are empty and can be made available to other users. The second warehouse has a capacity of 1000 metric tons but there are no locks on the doors, and the front face of roof needs to be repaired. Part of the fence had fallen down causing a security risk. The walls of the warehouse are solid blocks and there is wide open space available where additional storage cold be established. The third warehouse can store 500 metric tons, here door are in place but minor repairs are needed on them. GGC warehouse at Kerewan. Kerewan is 59KMs away from the Barra post. This depot accommodates two warehouse which have similar capacity to the one in Barra except that there ones are 750 metric ton capacity. No mechanical handling equipments could be found here but pallets were available. GGC warehouse at Kuntaur Information not provided. (Please refer to the Milling assessment section) Warehouse Complex GGC Gambian Groundnut Cooperation is own by the Govern, own 9 warehouses strategic located in the country on riverbanks near wharfs, one of them, located in Kaur can be used only from July to Nov. In case of river transport, the commodities can be offloaded from the barges using manpower from and moved to the warehouse or direct to the mean of transport (tractors). GGC Management declared a capacity of 4200 MT each ( 6 separations of 700 MT each), at all location the condition are not known, except the one visited by the LCA Team, in case of use they need to be secured. WHO/WFP need to get in touch with this group as they are the only group that has capacity to store large stocks of vaccines that need to be store in very low temperatures. We established that WHO does not have any warehousing capacity. They have a small storeroom for office supplies. They do not have a cold storage room to manage cold chain supplies. All vaccines that arrive in the country are sent directly to the National Central Medical Stores* MIDLAND TRADING could be a suitable option in the event of an emergency. This warehouse is located less than 300 metres from the Banjul highway and can be easily accessed both from the port and the airport.
