COMM Scholarships and Advising for 2015-16
Scholarships
This year the Department of Communication Studies is eligible to nominate students for
several scholarships through the College of Humanities and Sciences. We encourage
students to apply for the scholarships listed below.
To apply, please submit the following to LA 301 by Friday, March 20:


A one-page “brag-sheet” of accomplishments and awards. These items
should focus on your academic achievements, co-curricular activities, and
campus/community service.
A copy of your transcript (from Cyberbear)
When you submit your application, you will be asked to identify which scholarships you are
applying for. You may be considered for more than one scholarship.
1. Bill and Jo Reynolds Scholarship: The Bill and Jo Reynolds Scholarship shall be used
to provide merit scholarships to deserving students enrolled in the college of
Humanities and Sciences. This scholarship is available to graduate and
undergraduate students. Amount to award is $3.100. (Entire award can be offered
to a single recipient, or can be split equally between two recipients.
2. Kain/McKay Scholarship: The Kain/McKay scholarships are available to students
majoring in the Social Science departments and who will be attending UM during
2015-16. This year COMM has $2,560 to award with a minimum award amount of
$1,000.
3. Theodore L., Betty B., and Eileen Fuller Scholarship: The purpose of the Theodore L.,
Betty B., and Eileen Fuller Scholarship is to provide scholarships of at least $1,000
each for undergraduate students in the College of Humanities and Sciences.
Recipients must have completed their freshman year with at least a 3.5 grade point
average. Financial need is to be a consideration. Amount to ward is $1,700. (Because
of the $1,000 threshold, the entire award must be offered to a singe recipient.
Advising and Registration for Summer Session and Fall Semester
For those of you thinking about taking classes in the Summer and next Fall, now is the time
to begin planning. The COMM Department has assigned a faculty advisor to all majors, so
your first step should be to identify your assigned faculty advisory.
Lists of advising assignments will be available soon. If you wish to switch advisors, you
need to obtain permission from your new advisor first and hive her or him notify Lanell
Curry about the change.
