The University of North Texas is starting the thirteenth cohort of the Southwest Securities / University of
North Texas Superintendent Certification Program at the Universities Center at Dallas or the UNT at
Dallas Campus. This program is designed to provide the five courses necessary to complete the Texas
Superintendents’ Certification requirements, and prepare the candidates to pass the Superintendents’
examination for the certificate. Four of the courses will count toward the doctorate in education.
The classes will be held at the Universities Center at Dallas 1901 - Main Street in Dallas. Candidates
will complete the steps listed below in order to be considered for inclusion in the cohort:

Students who wish to apply for selection to the SWS/UNT Superintendent Certification Program
must do the following:
STEP 1: Apply to the Toulouse School of Graduate Studies. Graduate student admission information can
be found at http://www.tsgs.un.edu The graduate school’s number is 940 565-2383.
A. Apply to the graduate school online, www.applytexas.org You can pay the application fee by credit
card. If you have already paid the fee to www.applytexas.org when you applied for your master's program
and if you applied after 2003, you will probably not have to pay the fee again. Check "pay by check" and
the graduate school will notify you if you have to pay. Print a copy of your application.
B. Have all official transcripts sent to the graduate school. Be sure the master's degree from an accredited
college of university is recorded.
C. Take the GRE, including the verbal, quantitative, and analytic sections. Request a copy of your report to
be sent to the graduate school. If you have already taken the GRE, you do not have to take it again, but you
will need to see that the graduate school has a copy of your scores. (UNT Testing center gives the test
every week day.). This is optional, but recommended for those that wish to pursue the doctorate at
the conclusion of the Supt. Cert. Program.
D. Apply for financial aid if desired. The number for Student Financial Aid and Scholarships is:

STEP 2: Fill out Nomination Form for Superintendent Certification Program (attached) signed by
Central Office Administrator / Superintendent. (Transcripts of prior academic work and GRE scores will
be forwarded by the Toulouse School of Graduate Students.) We will begin instruction with the Fall
semester of 2014. Please get your paperwork in by July 15, 2013. Late registration will be accepted until
August 2, 2014.
There are two things that make this program different. The individuals tapped into the program by their
mentor superintendents/Central Office administrator will have $300.00 of their tuition restored by a
Southwest Securities scholarship as they pass each of the 5 courses. Twelve of the graduate hours will
transfer to the candidate’s doctoral program once the candidate completes the program and is accepted
into the doctoral program.
This is an excellent opportunity to launch the rest of your administrative career; with face to face UNT
instruction, direct application of administrative theory and mentoring that leads to the next chapter in your
leadership of the educators in Texas. The fourteenth cohort will begin classes with the fall term which starts
on August 25, 2014.
