The AutoNation IMAX 3D Theater underwent a complete renovation and reopened in October
2014, with a new 60’ x 80’ giant screen, new luxury seats, new powerful sound system and the

To Fly – Aviation
Permanent Exhibit
Aviation enthusiasts of all ages will have a blast exploring the many interactive displays in the
Museum of Discovery and Science’s refreshed aviation station, To Fly. This interactive exhibit
will immerse visitors in aviation technology. By exploring different areas within the exhibit,
visitors can learn about controlled flight, fundamentals of flight, navigation, and the materials
used to build planes. The biggest change is the addition of a 7D-multi-sensory theater capsule.
The 7D simulator uses moving seats, high definition 3D film and other special effects to allow
visitors to “fly” in a variety of aircraft. The exhibit enhancements were made possible by a
generous gift from the Emil Buehler Perpetual Trust.

Sesame Street Presents: The Body
On Exhibit through September 7, 2015
Sesame Street Presents: The Body offers an engaging, free-flowing learning experience set in the
fun, familiar and reassuring world of Sesame Street. The loveable Sesame Street Muppets anchor
an exciting collection of hands-on, interactive multimedia experiences that allow children to
explore the human body and how to keep it healthy. Each exhibit area has multiple activities to
provide age-appropriate and exciting learning opportunities for children at a variety of
developmental levels. The exhibition emphasizes scientific investigation and developmental and
curriculum-based learning goals for children ranging from two to eight years old. These learning
goals tie into the National Science Education Standards, the Benchmarks for Science Literacy
and the Sesame Street Healthy Habits for Life Curriculum. Sponsored locally by PNC Bank.

Great Balls of Fire: Comets, Asteroids and Meteors
October 1, 2015 through January 3, 2016
The Space Science Institute’s National Center for Interactive Learning, with funding from the
National Science Foundation and NASA, has developed a national traveling exhibition program
called Great Balls of Fire: Comets, Asteroids, and Meteors.
Great Balls of Fire explores the mysteries of these celestial objects. The threat of a catastrophic
impact from an asteroid or comet is a staple of popular culture. If there was a dinosaur killer in
Earth’s past, is there a human killer in our future? What are the chances and how do we assess
the risks? For that matter, what are asteroids, comets, and meteorites, and where do they come
from? These and many other questions are answered in Great Balls of Fire.





Climb into a “spaceship” and blast off to the asteroid belt and Jupiter on a mission to
gather data about asteroids and comets.
Enjoy a display of art and artifacts that tell the story of comet observations throughout
human history.
Learn the size of the average rock in a meteor shower event (it’s smaller than you think!).
See what would happen if asteroids or comets of various sizes hit your hometown.
Use a variety of tests (magnetism, color, density/relative weight) to determine if a rock is
a meteorite (or a meteor-wrong).

Mindbender Mansion
January 29, 2016 through May 1, 2016
Enter the wonderfully puzzling world of an exhibition that engages visitors in playful problem
solving, Mindbender Mansion. The exhibit is filled with brain teasers and interactive challenges
guaranteed to test the brain power and problem solving skills of even the most experienced
puzzlers.
Visitors to this fun and quirky mansion are invited to join the Mindbender Society by gathering
hidden clues and secret passwords scattered throughout the various thematic rooms of the house.
The clues and passwords are revealed by solving select brainteasers and group challenges.
Visitors are encouraged to think outside the box and collaborate with their fellow mansion guests
to meet individual and group challenges, which include manipulating a tilt table, forming
patterns in rolling chairs, keeping up with a conveyer belt, maneuvering a flying machine, and
disco hopscotch spelling.
Math, science, and technology content are woven into the puzzles, videos, and group challenges
found inside Mindbender Mansion. At the heart of the exhibit is the essential scientific task of
problem solving and critical thinking. The puzzles are an excellent tool for explaining
mathematical and physical science concepts. In order to solve these puzzles, visitors must
identify patterns, think ahead, use logical reasoning, and look at the problems from different
perspectives, setting aside preconceived ideas. The videos in each of the four Clue Vaults explain
neuroscience-based principles, and tell the story of several inventors who have used problem
solving skills to come up with new solutions to old problems. Additionally, the popular group
challenges require communication, collaboration, leadership, and teamwork skills – skills that
are critical in solving the challenges facing today’s businesses and communities.

also features the Mangurian Foundation Lifelong Learning Center with four labs and the 100-

seat Keller Science Theater with comfortable seating and technical features to support lectures,
exciting science demonstrations, and presentations by community experts.
POWERFUL YOU! Presented by Broward Health
Powerful You! showcases the amazing miracle of your body and the tools used by health
professionals to keep you healthy. Powerful You! is comprised of four zones: Powerful Team,
Powerful Pulse, Powerful You and The Cutting Edge. Visitors use a robot to conduct surgery,
operate a simulated Cyberknife, drive a DUI simulator and learn all about the importance of the
“Golden Hour.”

Ever wonder where your waste goes after the garbage truck takes it away? Harry the Heap, the
recycling robot, knows and is excited to show you the importance of recycling, safe waste
disposal, and the science behind landfills. Come explore with Harry as he guides visitors in
learning what “Going Green” really means. In Go Green! guests will discover how to recognize
the right materials for recycling, ways to reduce household waste and to be familiar with new
sources of clean energy.
MaxFlight Full Motion Simulator
Aviation Station also adds the state-of-the-art MaxFlight full motion simulator. With 360 –
degree pitch, roll and spin technology, visitors will be able to experience adrenaline-filled aerial
races and stunt flying! Note: You must be at least 48” tall to ride the MaxFlight motion
simulator.
MINERALS ROCK! Building Blocks of the Universe
Learn more about minerals in this beautiful and colorful exhibit that displays over 60 different
types of minerals and rocks. Did you know minerals are the building blocks of the entire
universe? The iron in hematite, in spinach and in our blood’s hemoglobin is all the same --- just
like the calcium in sea shells, in milk and in our bones are all the same. Did you know some
rocks glow in the dark? See pyrite or fool’s gold, opal, copper, malachite, halite, quartz, azurite,
and sulfur, just to name a few! You will even be able to touch real lava and make a “volcano”
erupt to see how new rocks and land masses are formed! The specimens in this display were
provided by the Carol Jacobs Mineral and Ammonite Collection from the Broward College
Graves Museum Collection.

CAMP DISCOVERY
Camp Discovery is designed to give children ages 6-12 entire days filled with exploration and
hands-on learning. One-day and five-day camps are offered. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
(before and after care is available). Camp fee includes all workshop materials and chaperoned
exhibit exploration. Children should bring two snacks, lunch and a drink. The Subway Café is

Be an engineer this week as you construct bridges from paper, design houses using pasta, and
build skyscrapers with gumdrops. Go on a walking expedition to see the incredible architectural
feats close to the Museum.
Crime Scene Solver
August 17 -21, 2015
Learn about crime scene investigation techniques. Collect evidence, view hair and clothing fibers
under microscopes, and analyze fingerprints and handwriting samples. End the week by
investigating a “crime scene” in the Museum.
OCEAN EXPLORERS CAMP for MIDDLE SCHOOL
Ocean Explorers Camp – Incoming 7th and 8th Graders
Five-Day Camp
Offered August 10 – 14, 2015
Campers will spend two days at the Museum and three days at FAU’s SeaTech in Dania Beach
exploring coastal marine and coral reef ecosystems. They will conduct estuary and barrier island
field work and tour FAU’s ocean engineering and electronics labs, submarine, and flow tunnel.
Plus, learn about sea turtles, marine science careers, and design, build, and race a solar-powered
boat. Fee: $300 per five-day camp - includes all workshop materials.
OVERNIGHT CAMP-INS: Friday and Saturday evenings, year-round
Have the ULTIMATE Museum Camp-In or Discovery Workshop experience with exclusive
access hundreds of hands-on exhibits, live animal encounters, labs, dynamic science shows,

Concoctions, Electricity, Engineering, and Marshmallows?, Dino-riffic, EnviroScape, Four
Forces of Flight, Kitchen Chemistry, Legends of the Stars, Marine Dissection, Matter of Fact,
Roller Coaster Physics, & Totally Ooey-Gooey. Supervised, age-appropriate science activities,
workshops, exhibit explorations, pizza dinner and live-animal encounters round out a fun-filled
evening before “lights-out” in the exhibit sleeping area. Group camp-ins are open to scout
groups, schools, church groups, recreation center groups and other youth organizations looking
for a night of fun and unique activities.
Each camp lasts from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. IMAX® films will be an additional charge per
person (child or chaperone). Group programs require a 40 participant minimum. Both programs
include pizza dinner, all activities, and exploration of the Museum

Planning a birthday party at the Museum of Discovery and Science is a piece of cake! Just say
the word, and we’ll put the wheels in motion for a birthday party that your birthday child will
always remember. Choose from an exciting selection of themes: Space Crusaders, Animal
Mania, Abracadabra Chemistry, Science Magic, Super Scientist, Living Dinosaurs and
Discovery Diva.
Party Options and Prices:
 Pizza Party: Pizza, soda and cake for a maximum of 20 guests including birthday child
and family members. $375 for members. $425 for non-members. $15 per additional
person. Add-on options available.
 Subway Party: Sub platter, chips and juice boxes for a maximum of 20 guests including
birthday child and family members. $455 for museum members. $505 for non-members.

Birthday Party Themes:
 Animal Mania (Ages 3-12): Snakes and alligators and lizards, oh my! Learn about the
Museum’s reptiles and even meet them face-to-face! It’s perfect for your younger “party
animal.”
 Dino-Mite (Ages 5 & up):
Are you ready to be a junior paleontologist for a day and have a Dino-Mite time? Go on
a dinosaur dig and make “fossil dough” to take home!
 Frozen Frenzy (Ages 5 & up): Be an ice prince or princess for the day as you explore
the properties of some freezing substances. Experiment with dry ice and create chilly
treats. This party will definitely be cooler than cool!
 Happy Burp-Day (Ages 5 & up):
Celebrate your birthday in a gross way! Conduct stomach turning experiments and take
homemade “SNOT” home. This party is sure to be a gas!
 Super Scientist (Age 5 & up): Put on your lab coat and be a scientist for a day! Conduct
crazy experiments and make wild concoctions. Your birthday is sure to be an explosively
good time!
 Sesame Street Senses (Ages 3 & up): Celebrate your birthday with Elmo and friends as
you learn about the senses! Tune up your sense of touch by making ooey-gooey slime
and creating your own puffy paint 3D picture. Without a doubt, your party

MaxFlight BIRTHDAY PARTIES (Ages 5 & up)
Special times and pricing applies. Times are as follows: Fridays from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.; Saturday

 Rockin’ Roller Coaster
Imagine designing your own roller coaster and then riding it with your friends inside our
MaxFlight Simulator. It’ll be a rockin’ and rollin’ party to remember.
 Awesome Aeronautics
Take off in this thrilling birthday ride of a lifetime. You and your friends can turn
incredible aerial stunts or engage an aerial dog fight in our MaxFlight Simulator. Also
enjoy time in the Aviation Station exhibit.
ABOUT THE AUTONATION® IMAX 3D THEATER
The AutoNation® IMAX 3D Theater, owned and operated by the Museum of Discovery and
Science, opened in 1992. The 300-seat theater is a showcase of state-of-the-art motion picture
technology. In September 2014, the AutoNation® IMAX 3D Theater underwent an extensive
renovation including a new giant screen (60 ft. x 80 ft.), new luxury seats, new powerful sound
system and the addition of a digital projection system to complement our 15/70 film projector.
Our new dual IMAX projection system allows us to show both digital and 15/70 IMAX films
and offer a more consistent flow of new Hollywood films in addition to our classic
documentaries. The IMAX Experience® is an unparalleled fusion of sight and sound. Audiences

ABOUT THE MUSEUM OF DISCOVERY AND SCIENCE
The mission of the Museum of Discovery and Science is to provide experiential pathways to
lifelong learning in science for children and adults through exhibits, programs and films.
Founded in 1976 as The Discovery Center, the nonprofit facility serves approximately 400,000
visitors annually. Major operational support for the Museum is provided through generous
support by Leadership Guild members including: Broward Health, JM Family Enterprises, Inc.,
Sun Sentinel and Wells Fargo.
The Museum is open seven days a week, 365 days a year; Monday through Saturday from 10
