MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:
To lead, co-ordinate, teach, develop and support delivery
In the Humanities and Social Science curriculum

Curriculum Leadership
1. In liaison with the College Manager and other course coordinators from across the
Humanities curriculum, to maximise the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of Humanities
and Social Sciences courses.
2. To provide initial information, advice and guidance as required.
3. To liaise with the curriculum manager, course team and other internal partners in the design,
development and application of syllabus requirements to ensure compliance with awarding
body requirements.
4. To lead, support and contribute to the development of courses, learning resources and
materials for courses throughout the subject area.
5. To assist with the development of appropriate marketing information and materials as
required.
6. To attend course, department and college meetings as requested.
7. To take responsibility for accurate and timely completion of administrative tasks.
8. To undertake College services as follows:
 membership of committees, working parties and curriculum groups;
 participation in staff development
 facilitate information sessions
 research and disseminate information and reports
 preparation for and attendance at open events.
Staff Management
9. To participate in and assist with the induction, supervision, support, appraisal and
development of a team of staff.
10. To select and appoint permanent and variable hours staff to meet the curriculum needs of the
area.
11. To lead and co-ordinate full-time and part-time staff to efficiently meet the needs of the
teaching/assessment programme across the programme area.
12. To timetable, monitor and support the work of teachers and internal verifiers to ensure
compliance with awarding body requirements and timely completion of qualifications.
13. To participate in / provide training programmes as advised/appropriate.
Quality Leadership
14. To take responsibility for performance of the area, specifically the recruitment, retention,
achievement and outcomes for learners.
15. To take responsibility for the production of the level 1 self-assessment reports in line with
college requirements, and to contribute to the brand level SAR as required.
16. To participate in Quality Improvement by attending meetings as appropriate, performing
observations, contributing to reports and implementing actions as identified.
17. To ensure that assessment, internal verification and the lead IV role are performed effectively.
18. To monitor staff performance in terms of the teaching and learning standards and other
appropriate college policies and guidelines. Liaise with the curriculum manager especially
where action is needed to reward performance or support under performance.
19. To account for the area's quality indicators and to disseminate these issues to staff teams for
action.
20. To work with and help develop tracking systems.
Resource Management
21. To take account of Health and Safety issues arising from curriculum use of
facilities/resources. Liaise with the Health and Safety Manager/College Manager to ensure
compliance with College policy and legislation.
22. To timetable effectively and utilize the resources and accommodation effectively.
23. To participate in the management of a devolved budget with the College Manager and/or
curriculum leader. To assist the curriculum leader in taking responsibility for the management
of the non-pay budget.
External Liaison
24. To liaise with external verifiers, lead assessors and contribute to and assist with their visits to
the College, to ensure programme compliance with required systems of
assessment/verification.
25. To maintain links with appropriate awarding bodies to ensure that practice is current
throughout the delivery. Carry out administrative tasks associated with co-ordination and
communication of subject developments.
26. To work with external and internal partners to promote the work of the area, including the
management of projects, schools visits and the provision of information, advice and guidance.
Curriculum Development
27. To develop programmes in line with changes in the industry, the 6th form curriculum and the
needs of current and prospective learners.
Teaching and Learning
28. To teach and develop subjects in line with current educational philosophy, working as part of
a team.
29. To teach on courses in area of specialism and other related fields. Prepare learning and
teaching materials for own subjects in accordance with current quality standards for teaching
and learning. Prepare and carry out any assessment of students required by appropriate
validating body. To follow the guidelines included in the College’s Teaching and Learning
Document.
30. To teach any additional subject/s appropriate to skills and experience.
31. To undertake appropriate development activities.
32. To work to promote and apply the College’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
33. To carry out these duties and responsibilities in accordance with all relevant statutory
obligations and current College policies, procedures and regulations including those relating
to equal opportunities, health and safety, teaching and learning, quality assurance, financial
matters, employment matters, funding and examination body requirements and data
protection.
34. Any other job related activities as requested appropriate to the grading of the post.
