and relations to come down to the Guildhall square.

News from Studio 53
Laura Rich
is a painter living in Mere, Wilts, England. I paint contemporary landscapes
and seascapes inspired mainly by the downland surrounding my home and
the Dorset and Cornish coastlines which I visit regularly.
Laura secured
a commission to paint a multitude of landscape for one of the
flag ships for P&O at the end of last year. From this point her work and
profile has gone from strength to strength
David O'Connor
The work shown represents a period of about 25 years. Work has been
selected on the basis of association. Relevant earlier drawings and prints
have been included to support the recent paintings, sculpture, photography
and film. I am a landscape artist and this is the genre which connects all of
the work.
 News from Fisherton Mill
Salisbury Art Trail exhibition at Fisherton Mill
The highlight of the 9-day Salisbury Art Trail, that kicks off on Saturday
3rd October, will undoubtedly be the array of artists showing their
diverse talents throughout Fisherton Mill, and at a special exhibition in
the Main Gallery.
The Art Trail comes around every two years and is when artists local to
the Salisbury area, working in every kind of medium, open their homes
and studios, or present their work in Galleries and public spaces, for the
public to look at and hopefully buy their work. Entry is free and the last
trail, two years ago, featured over 100 artists exhibiting in 63 venues.
This year Fisherton Mill will show a wide selection of locally imagined,
designed and created arts and crafts. Sculptures, figurines, lino and
mono prints as well as wonderful woodwork will be just some of the art
on display at the Mill, which will be open all day and serving at
the very least cakes and coffee throughout the 9 day period.
Alongside the likes of Rod Hague (monoprint artist), Yvonne Steer
(sculptor) and Mike Gaunt(furniture maker), there will also be a unique
exhibition by a new collective of women artists whose love of the
Wiltshire countryside has led them to calling themselves the
"Elementals".
Following in the well-trudged steps of art collectives, this group of
printmakers, painters, illustrators, a ceramicist, and a 'collager' will show
their work under the unifying theme of "Tracks, Pathways and Routes"; it
should be a fascinating and close to home mix of skills and
interpretations of our countryside. The work is inspired by walks across
the Wiltshire downs, a journey through a wood, footsteps through time
& a walk around a quarry as well as tracks across the land. The artists
involved are Cath Bloomfield, Jenny Ford, Valerie Rutley-Paine, Julia
Leyden, Jan Knight and Christine Shorney. On Sunday 4th October, there
will also be a performance in the Main Gallery by the Salisbury Fringe
writers' group based on pieces of work in this Elementals exhibition.
Fisherton Mill is celebrating its 21st year as Salisbury's leading gallery for
arts & crafts, and even has its own award-winning cafe/restaurant to
boot!
Opening times:
10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and on both Art Trail Sundays from
11am – 4pm.

2“Into the light”
Holiday Inn-Stonehenge, Mid-Summer Place, Solstice
Park, Amesbury, Wiltshire, SP4 7SQ
Phillip Fisher and Irene Colquhoun Exhibiting
3rd October – 11th October 2015 during the Salisbury Art Trail.
This year 2 local Amesbury Artists will be joining in on the Salisbury Art
Trail; exhibiting their work at Holiday Inn-Stonehenge near Amesbury.
Irene’s work is based on the human form; “I’ve been working on this for
some time now; the colours are powerful and
the designs often
complicated, offering some interesting designs which takes me into a
different dimension”.
Phill Fisher will be showcasing his intriguing Night-time photography;
experimenting with light and shape without any form of manipulation”.
You may well recognise some of the local haunts within the artwork as
they relate very much to Wiltshire. “I am forever experimenting with
new ideas where every new venue offers a new challenge, In some cases
the photographs seem almost illusionary, it’s exciting work”.
The Exhibition will be open to the public during Holiday Inn opening
hours and can be viewed along the corridor and in two of the meeting
rooms, and free of charge entry.
10% of sales will go towards the Stars Appeal campaign to help raise
money for the new Breast Cancer unit in Salisbury.
Their work is on show now throughout

 News from Salisbury Arts centre
Michael Pennie puts art into familiar settings for
Salisbury Arts Centre’s latest exhibition
Salisbury Arts Centre’s next exhibition features sculptor Michael Pennie, a
Wiltshire-based artist working to move art away from austere gallery spaces and
back into familiar settings.
Michael’s long relationship with the arts in Wiltshire began in 1962, when he arrived
in Corsham to take up a teaching post at the then Bath Academy of Art. He taught
Fine Art at what eventually became Bath Spa University for more than 50 years.
Sculpture for Furniture came about after two of Michael’s small sculptures were
returned to him following a London gallery exhibition, prompting a re-think on how
he displays his works.
As he describes, “At home again, I re-installed the sculptures on the windowsill in
my kitchen. They seemed immediately at ease there, placed in a familiar space. This
was the genesis of ‘Sculpture for Furniture’, the creation of an exhibition that would
avoid the austerity of the white gallery.”
Accompanying the sculptures will be Michael’s Yew Tree commission sculpture, a
selection of framed drawings depicting his career-long affinity with wood, and for
the first time all 500 of his Small Drawings, a project he completed in 2011.
In addition to Michael’s work, the exhibition will display pieces from two recent
Bath Spa University graduates, Sarah Purvey and Jo Taylor.
Sculpture for Furniture launches on Wednesday 9 September at 6pm. All
are welcome to get a first look at the new exhibition.
The exhibition runs until Saturday 10 October. Salisbury Arts Centre’s
exhibition space is open Tuesday – Saturday 10am – 3pm. Entry is free. For
more information visit www.salisburyartscentre.co.uk or you can contact
Salisbury Arts Centre’s Box Office on 01722 321744.
 Magna Flora – A feast for all the senses!
Salisbury Cathedral’s Magna Carta 800th anniversary celebrations
reach a floral crescendo with Magna Flora, a spectacular flower
festival themed the famous document’s legacy.
Showcasing the
work of 500 flower arrangers and astounding floral art created out
of 30,000 blooms, the festival runs from 15-20 September.
Displays include giant fantasy flowers, massive floral lampshades
hanging from the ceiling and 25 panels depicting the Barons
present at Runnymede.
A nave-length display depicts England in
chaos before Magna Carta on one side and ‘in order’ afterwards on
the other. There are also twice daily floral design demonstrations,
accompanied by live music.

We are launching a new Leg Ulcer Club in November here at Salisbury Medical
Practice. Leg Clubs are a research based initiative which provide
community-based treatment, health promotion, education and on-going
care for people of all age groups who are experiencing leg-related problems.
The club will be based heavily on the social aspect, with proof of the
benefits this has had within other communities. We are therefore looking
at running two clubs, one being a walking club that will be run by a Health
Care Assistant and volunteer, the other an art club which we wondered if
you would like to get involved in? It will be on a voluntary basis and we
will provide materials through funding at the surgery. We hope you may
be interested in this, whether it be on a permanent basis or just help to
set up and then hand over to a volunteer. The club will run monthly and it
is proposed to be a Monday morning. Please contact me, David Walker at
