ROBOT-ERA Funded PhD Research Studentship
Experimental Investigations in Human-Robot Interaction
Supervisors
Professor Angelo Cangelosi
Professor Tony Belpaeme
Project Description
This research is part of the new European Union funded project ROBOT-ERA:
Advanced robotic systems for an ageing population (www.robot-era.eu).
The PhD student will carry out experimental research on human-robot interaction in
the context of the use of robot companions for the elderly. This will include controlled
experiments on the evaluation of multimodal interfaces for interaction with robots
(speech, tablets, web) and on-site experiments on interaction with robots in elderly
people’s homes and social care homes.
Eligibility
Applicants should have, or expect to obtain, a high grade Bachelors or Masters
Degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Computer Science (with a human-robot or
human-computer interaction focus), or related disciplines. The candidate must have
a keen interest in robotics and computer technologies and a strong motivation to
perform research. Previous experience with human-robot interaction experiments or
programming for psychology experiments is desirable. Awareness of research
methods and experimental psychology methodologies is essential.
Funding
The studentship will have a 3 year duration and consists of an annual bursary of
£17,676 per annum. The successful candidate will be responsible for payment of
their own tuition fees which will be £3,950 for Home/EU and £13,640 for Overseas
