1. Best Buy Scholarship Program Due Date: February 15 th , 2013

Best Buy Children’s Foundation is awarding up to $1.1 million in scholarships to recognize and reward students who have made extraordinary contributions both inside and outside of the classroom.

Best Buy Scholarship Program is administered by Scholarship Management Services, a division of

Scholarship America. Scholarship Management Services is the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals.

To be eligible applicants must:

Be a student in grades 9-12

Be living in the United States or Puerto Rico

Have a minimum cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale), or

 equivalent

Demonstrate commitment to and involvement in community volunteer service or work

 experience

Be planning to enter a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two or four Year

College, university, vocational-technical school, or online school/program in the United States or

2. Moody’s Mega Math Challenge Due Date: February 22 nd , 2012

Moody's Mega Math Challenge (M 3 Challenge) is an applied mathematics competition for high school students. Winners receive scholarships totaling $115,000 for continuing education. A partnership of The

Moody's Foundation and SIAM , the competition spotlights applied mathematics as a powerful problemsolving tool, a vital contributor to advances in an increasingly technical society, and a viable and exciting profession.

The M3 Challenge is open to teams of 11th and 12th grade students in New England and Mid-Atlantic states, from Maine to Washington, D.C. Each team must consist of three to five students who will be challenged to solve an open-ended, realistic, applied math-modeling problem focused on real-world issues.

3. Tri-County Independent Insurance Agents Association Due Date: February 28 th , 2013

The Tri-County Independent Insurance Agents Association is getting ready to start the award process of two prestigious memorial awards. Tri-County Insurance Agents Association is offering two awards to qualifying seniors attending high school.

The “JOEL POLLACK” Memorial Scholarship -

On Memorial day weekend in 1998, a drunk driver tragically killed an esteemed member of this association. Joel was 35 years of age and was a highly regarded member of this association and he believed strongly in continuing education. Tri-County established an educational scholarship in his honor to assist a graduating high school senior in furthering

Scholarship Bulletin 2012-2013 his or her education. Tri-County will award $2500 scholarship to the winning student in the graduating class of 2013, to be used towards expenses at the college of their choice.

The “STEPHEN T. DOOLEY COMMUNITY SERVICE” Scholarship -

Steve was a major influence in the formation of the Tri-County Association. He was president of this organization, a highly respected insurance professional and very active in his community, mostly as a volunteer in charity and youth activities. Steve died from cancer in February 2005 and we thought there was no finer way to honor him than to establish an ongoing scholarship in his memory, in the areas he cherished and worked so hard in.

$2,500 will be awarded to a high school graduate who has and continues to demonstrate exemplary community service, to be used towards college expenses.

4. Dante Foundation Due Date: February 28 th , 2013

The Dante Foundation of Nassau County, Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded to foster Italo-

American heritage and culture through education and philanthropic endeavors. We are awarding several

$5,000 scholarships yo graduating high school students of Italo-American ancestry who reside in Nassau or Suffolk County and who will be attending an accredited college or university. Finalists will be invited for a personal interview with our selection committee and winners will be announced in May 2013.

The Dante Foundation is seeking students who have achieved high standards in academics, participated in extra curricular activities and scored above average on the SAT exam. A maximum of four applications will be accepted from each school.

5. Buick Achievers Scholarship Program Due Date: February 28 th , 2013

Are you making a difference, in your classroom and in your community? If you have the passion to succeed especially in fields of study important to the automotive and related industries the Buick

Achievers Scholarship Program is looking for you. This year, we will award 1,100 scholarships, including

100 renewable scholarships of up to $25,000 per year.

Applicants must enroll full time as a first time freshmen at a 4-year college or university and plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive trade. Open to current high school seniors.

6. The American Heritage Scholarship Nomination Due Date: March 8 th , 2013

Two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors, one male, one female, for Long Island students whose lives exemplify genuine character and promote the Scriptural values upon which our country was founded. Up to four $500 High Honorable Mention scholarships may be awarded regardless of gender. A committee appointed by the church will make the selection. Selection of the winners will be based upon an essay by the applicant as well as three recommendations- one by a school official

(teacher, guidance counselor, coach, or school administrator), one by the applicant’s spiritual leader

(minister, priest, or rabbi), and one by another adult. Finalists may be interviewed if the committee determines it is necessary. The scholarship will be presented at a special Baccalaureate Service, held at the church, on Sunday, June 9th 2013. Selected recipients will be required to attend this service.

Criteria for Award:

The American Heritage Scholarship Committee will judge applicants using values revealed in the

Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, which include the following: genuine; personal faith in

God; patriotism; personal honesty and integrity; compassion and concern for others; and the traditional moral beliefs described in the Ten Commandments including honor for parents, the sanctity of life, chastity, honesty and truthfulness in all dealings with others.

Two scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors, one male and one female, residing in

Long Island. Graduating seniors of families of Island Christian Church who are engaged in full-time ministry, in a location other than Long Island, are also eligible.

7. Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program Nomination Due Date: March 15 th , 2013

Every year, Kohl’s recognizes and rewards young volunteers across the country for their amazing contributions to their communities. Since 2001, Kohl’s has recognized more than 17,500 kids with nearly

$3.5 million in scholarship and prizes. In 2013, Kohl’s will award an additional 2,300 kids with over

$425,000 in scholarships and prizes.

To be eligible:

Students must be between the ages of 6 and 18 (as of March 15, 2013) and not yet a high school graduate

 Student’s volunteer actions should be described in detail on the nomination form

Volunteer efforts must have occurred in the last year

Nominators must be 21 or older.

8. Herb Grayson Memorial Scholarship Due Date: April 3 rd , 2013

A scholarship in the amount of $1500 will be awarded to one or more graduating Nassau or Suffolk

County High School seniors chosen on the basis of involvement in and service to the Long Island running community.

In order to qualify for the scholarship, you must submit a paper describing your involvement in and service to the running community, as well as your personal running accomplishments.

The Herb Grayson Scholarship wants you to keep in mind that they are not necessarily interested in the star of the high school track or cross country team. Rather, for example, they want to recognize the student who has helped raise funds to send the team to an out-of-town meet or who has helped organize a road race or track meet to help out a local charity. The key is that this a SERVICE-oriented scholarship rather than one based on athletic accomplishments.

9. The Long Island 2 Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer Scholarship Due Date: April 10 th , 2013

The Long Island 2 Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer Scholarship, supported by the Long Island 2-Day

Walk to Fight Breast Cancer, Inc., was established to recognize the profound effect of breast cancer on a family. $120,000 in scholarships has been awarded since 2005. The LI2Day Scholarship is designed to provide a one-time award of $2,500 to a high school senior who resides with a parent, guardian or relative who is a survivor or victim of breast cancer. To be eligible applicant must:

Be a resident of Nassau or Suffolk County, New York

Be enrolled in high school full-time

Be a graduating senior

Have applied and received acceptance to either a 2 or 4 year college or university

Reside with a parent or guardian who is a survivor of breast cancer or resided with a parent or guardian who was a victim of breast cancer

10. The Maria A. Sciara Scholarship Fund Due Date: April 10 th , 2013

The Maria A. Sciara Scholarship Fund is dedicated to helping students who aspire to be teachers and might be denied the dream of a college education because of the devastating effect a parent or guardian's cancer has on a family. To be eligible applicant must:

Be a resident of Nassau or Suffolk County, New York

Be enrolled in high school full-time

Be a graduating senior

Have applied and received acceptance to either a 2 or 4 year college or university

Reside with a parent or guardian who is a survivor of cancer or resided with a parent or guardian

 who was a victim of cancer (other than breast cancer)

11. New York Schools Insurance Reciprocal Due Date: April 12 th , 2013

The Board of Trustees of the New York Schools Insurance Foundation and the Board of Governors of the

New York Schools Insurance Reciprocal are pleased to announce that they are once again offering both the Cristin Bambino and Paul Jensen scholarship awards for the coming year.

The Bambino scholarship is available to a special education student who is college bound. The goal of this scholarship is to reward a student who has worked through his or her special challenges to complete high school and gain acceptance into a college or university. The scholarship is in memory of Cristin

Ann Bambino, daughter of NYSIR’s Director of Risk Management, Robert Bambino. Cristin was a special education student who persevered through many obstacles and earned a Bachelor’s degree and a

Paralegal Certificate.

Applicants for this scholarship must complete an essay, not to exceed 650 words, that addresses the following topics:

 The student’s accomplishments (clubs, athletics, volunteer activities, and academic achievements)

Examples of how the student overcame his or her challenges

The Jensen scholarship is available to a student who has exceled in design in his or her high school career. The goal of this scholarship is to reward a student who has shown interest and promise in design and who wishes to pursue this path in college. The scholarship is in memory of Paul Jensen, a marketing representative for NYSIR. Paul was a great craftsman, able to evaluate the best functional attributes of multiple designs and then conceptualize his own creative version. For example, he created canoe designs then converted them to sailing canoes, and then adapted a commercial roof rack to transport canoes.

Applicants for this scholarship must complete an essay, not to exceed 650 words, that explains:

A way they would design, or adapt an existing design, for a specific purpose

How this design or adaptation could be accomplished

Why this design, or adaptation, would be unique

14. B. Davis Scholarship 2012-2013 Due Date: May 27, 2013

This scholarship is available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any post secondary institution. To apply for this scholarship you will need to write an essay of less than 1000 words on the topic: what would you consider to be the most important issue that society has to deal with in the next 10 or 20 years? Why do you think this issue is important?

Island Drafting & Technical Institute Due Date: ASAP

Island Drafting & Technical Institute is pleased to announce their scholarship program for high school seniors. For 2012/2013 each high school may recommend three students for scholarships at Island

Drafting and Technical Institute. This scholarship will provide a $2,500 award to each student which can be applied towards the daytime session Associate degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design or

Electronic and Computer Service technology. Selection of students will be determined by the Guidance office of each school.

FASNY Fireman’s Association of the State of New York Due Date: March 15, 2013

The scholarship Advisory Committee, on behalf of the Fireman’s Association of the State of New York, is happy to announce that they will be awarding fifteen $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors entering college.

Eligibility

 The applicant or the applicant’s parent/legal guardian must be a member in good standing with

FASNY

 The applicant must be a senior in high school who is enrolled in fall 2013 school year at an accredited two or four year institution of higher learning

 Must be a current junior firefighter, Explorer Scout or RAM in a volunteer department; a volunteer with an EMS agency; and has demonstrated both a commitment to volunteer emergency service and to the community
