Activities (BK/SI District)
 District Meeting October 30, 2013. Educational talk performed by Adrian
Miranda on Evidence based approach to cervicogenic headache. Meeting attended
by ~70 members, the large majority local PT students.
 BK/SI District Holiday social held December 6th at Zablozki’s bar in
Williamsburg Brooklyn. Event consisted of district provided food and a cash bar.
Fun social outing. Attended by ~30 members.
 District board meeting held October 30th. Discussed planning for our spring
symposium that will consist of 3 morning and 3 afternoon educational seminars.
Topics will range to cover many different PT disciplines. Symposium will be held
at College of Staten Island on March 23.
 Discussed planning first ever district organized career fair. We will attempt to
bring together new grads and soon to be grads with local employers. Tentative
date of Sunday May 27.

A. Eastern District participated in the Senior Expo on 10/4/13. Sage Graduate School PT
students and volunteers present to perform screenings. (Goal 1, Obj. 1; Goal 2, Obj. 3; Goal 6,
Obj. 4; Goal 7, Obj 2)
B. Hosted a hospitality table at the NYPTA Conference, October 25 & 26 at Desmond
Hotel and Conference Center in Albany.
C. CE Event: Outcome Measurement Tools in Medicare--Van Rensselaer Manor
11/15/2013 (Goal IV, Obj 1).
D. Meeting: 11/15/2013
1. Election of Delegates for spring 2014 Delegate Assembly held.
2. Budget Review:
a. Proposed $500 expenditure for travel for the designated delegate for
National DA
a. Reviewed budget for 2014-2015.

a. Confirmed Janda Method seminar for Sept. 13 and 14, 2014. (Goal IV,

A. District Budget Access
1. Treasurer concerns:
a. Lack of direct access to account as needed-must call home office
b. Funds were deducted from the account for a conference call without the
Treasurer’s knowledge.
c. Update of the Procedures process for Treasurer from Home Office as
many of the procedures have changed recently, but the current procedures are dated 2009.

FINGER LAKES DISTRICT – Jeanette Brown

Activities

District Meetings
o 9/17/2013 – Welcome Students, Finger Lakes District Meeting,
Genesee Community College – dinner served to welcome students into
the new school year, roundtable discussions held on a variety of
physical therapy related topics by both students and a range of
practitioners, as well as an overview of NYPTA/APTA structure and
how to get involved. (Attendees > 60) (G4, 11)
o 11/2/13-Executive Committee Phone Meeting- Discuss Leadership
Transition Plan. Megan O’Brien is resigning from Finger Lakes
District Chair effective 1/1/14. According to Finger Lakes Bylaws, the
Finger Lakes Director will assume any vacated Chair position until a
Special Election can be held. We anticipate the election will be held
after 1/1/14 to fill the vacated Chair position as soon as possible;
likely to be completed through electronic voting. Additional positions
will likely need to be filled including Legislative Liaison, Vice Chair,
and potentially additional positions.
o 11/18/13 & 12/19/13-Physical Therapy Social-Winfield Grill. Informal
social event for Physical Therapists in the local region to come
together and network. A small group of a few individuals attended.

Current Issues and Concerns


We are looking to grow new leaders within the local district and increase
involvement through filling all vacated executive positions plus liaison
positions.
We continue to look for ways regularly to boost meeting attendance, enhance
member participation, and give members more value for their membership
dollars.

Review and approval of the budget
The proposed Greater New York District’s 2014 budget was submitted to the
district’s Executive Board for their preliminary review in September 2013. There
were no additions or changes at that time from the Executive Board. The 2014
Greater New York District budget was posted on the District’s website. The
district membership was given more than 30 days to submit comments or
changes to the district Treasurer. There were no comments or changes received
by the deadline. At the district’s Business and Educational meeting on November
06, 2013, the 2014 Greater New York District’s final budget was approved by the
members present at the meeting.

Annual Heart Walk was held on 10/6/13 at Kensico Dam in Valhalla, NY, sponsored by the
American Heart Association. Jennifer Zaleski coordinates this activity each year.

This program was held at West Point, and the speakers are members of the PT Sports Residency
Program.
The program received excellent feedback, and the group is willing to participate in future CE
programs. Unfortunately the turnout was very small <20. We are not able to determine the
reason for such a low turn out. Location? Time of year? Topic?

Budget was passed on time, but with little to no comment from the membership.
III. Current Issues and Concerns
 Ongoing recruitment of active members. The HVD board has been meeting via
phone conference with the hope of recruiting additional participants, however, this
has not materialized. This may be due to limited pre announcement of meetings.
We hope to advertise this to the membership and encourage active listening.

WESTERN DISTRICT – Mark Basile

There are no outstanding or uncompleted motions that the chapter directors or BOD is
responsible for completing for this meeting.

Activities (District, Committee, or Member)
Since the last board of directors meeting/report, the Western District has been
participating in the following activities with regard to our previously set objectives.
1) Goal 2/Objective 3: NYPTA Will Advance The Physical Therapy Profession’s Role
In Improving The Health, Wellness And Fitness Of The People Of New York Support education and resources to increase the proficiency and prevalence of
physical therapists providing prevention and wellness services in New York.
a. Happy hour hosted by the district benefitting Journey's End, which aids
Burmese refugees, was held at Crazy Jake’s Restaurant and Bar located in
North Tonawanda, NY on 11/07/2013. $25 in cash and 4 large boxes of warm
clothing donations were collected for Journey's End.
b. The Western District Holiday Dinner was held on 12/4/13 at Chef’s
Restaurant in Buffalo, NY with proceeds from the ticket sales and basket
raffle benefitting the Museum of Disability History. We had 47 attendees.
We are pleased to announce that we were able to donate $860 to the Museum
of Disability History.
2) Goal 5/Objective 2: NYPTA Will Achieve Chapter Membership Rates Necessary To
Be An Effective, Unified Voice For The Profession - Develop new outreach
initiatives to involve students pro actively with the association
a. Western District held a student essay contest to support a local PT student
attending National Student Conclave in October 2013. The selected essay
winner was Thomas Danat, Jr.
3) Goal 1/Objective 1: NYPTA Will Promote The Highest Standards Of Physical
Therapy Practice Through Advocacy, Programming, Collaboration And
Communications - Create innovative, convenient methods by which physical
therapists and physical therapist assistants can acquire and integrate professional
knowledge.
a. The 2 hour continuing education event held at Daemen College on 10/16/13,
featuring concussion expert Dr John Leddy, titled “Post-Concussion
Syndrome: Overview of Diagnosis and Management” raised approximately
$315
