CAN REGISTER BY THE 21st. Third Annual Craftsbury version #7: 12/21/11 Vermont High School 25 km Go the Distance Marathon Classical Technique January 28, 2012 start 9:30 AM Event Description This year the 31st annual TD Bank Craftsbury Marathon will have a special division to “Go the Distance” for Vermont high school skiers. The high school skier event will not have a relay component this year. They will follow the same course as the 25 kilometer Half Marathon racers starting at Highland Lodge and finishing on Craftsbury Common. Vermont high school skiers will each follow the full 25 km spectacular point-to-point route for the first time in the three year history of this event. We plan to downplay racing in the “Vermont High school 25k Go the Distance” class of the Marathon. The emphasis will be on having fun skiing together while completing the distance. Results will be times listed alphabetically within year and gender. Certificates of completion will be awarded at the finish. Special Entry Fee for High School Teams The special entry fee for the “Vermont High School Go the Distance” class will be $5 per skier due at race packet pickup 7:00 to 8:30 am at Craftsbury Academy and does not include lunch. Lunch is available for an additional $5 per skier. This $5 registration fee is a special consideration for Vermont high school teams that we are able to offer only through a combination of volunteer help from your non-participating team members, coaches, parents, families, and friends as well as through elimination of some non-essentials. To qualify for the special entry fee, we ask the following: that you designate and register one responsible adult skier per ten team skiers to accompany them on the course and provide support/waxing/etc. that each team provide at least one race volunteer per ten athletes to the Marathon organization. If any Vermont High School skier wishes to race the 25 they can register in the reduced-cost ($30- cost goes up after January 1) student racing class on line at www.SkiReg.com. Race Day Logistics Race packet pickup will be at Craftsbury Academy Gym on Craftsbury Common from 7:00 to 8:30 am. High school skiers and their accompanying adult(s) should ride in their own school bus to Highland Lodge. The bus will unload and immediately proceed back to Craftsbury Common. If your team is driving to the Marathon in a private car, small van or only partially filled bus we request that you travel to the start by the marathon shuttle bus departing from the Gym at Craftsbury Academy. High school skiers will start in the special high school wave number 3 at 9:30am. They should be prepared to be self-sufficient and have adequate extra clothing to stay warm outside until the start. There will be porta-toilets, food, drink, radio communication, emergency dropout shuttle van and first aid at several stations along the way and transportation for your warm ups and extra gear to the Common from the start.
