Scope and Purpose 1.1 Bournemouth University offers a range of Academic Achievement Scholarships. Details of the Scholarship benefits, eligibility to apply and deadline for applications are listed at Section 5 of this document. Scholarships will be reviewed on a regular basis and the University reserves the right to introduce new Scholarships or to cease the award of Scholarships at any time. 1.2 The criteria for eligibility for each Scholarship has been approved by Bournemouth University’s Fees Board. The administration of all University Scholarships is carried out by askBU on behalf of the Fees Board. 1.3 Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of merit only within each Scholarship Category and will not be means tested or otherwise influenced by any other award/grant etc held by the Scholarship applicant. 2. Applications 2.1 Applicants who wish to be considered for a Scholarship should obtain an application pack available from the University’s website at http://www.bournemouth.ac.uk/futurestudents/funding/index.html 2.2 An individual may apply for a Scholarship in any or all of the Scholarship Categories listed. However, no individual may hold more than one Scholarship. Eligibility criteria for each category of Scholarship are laid out in Section 5. 2.3 Completed application forms should be submitted to askBU, The Base, Talbot Campus, Fern Barrow, Poole, BH12 5BB. 2.4 Consideration will be given to all applications that meet the published criteria for each Scholarship Category provided the application is received before the published deadline. 2.5 Applications for Academic Achievement Scholarships received after the deadline will not be considered. 3. Appeals 3.1 Unsuccessful applicants wishing to appeal should write to the Appeals, Complaints and Conduct Officer within 10 working days of being notified of the outcome of their application stating clearly the grounds for appeal. 3.2 Appeals will only be considered where there is evidence that a procedural irregularity has occurred in processing the application. Appeals against the University’s judgement of the merit of an applicant against the published criteria will not be accepted. 4. Payment of award 4.1 Scholarship awards will normally be paid to the successful Scholar in three equal instalments. Normally, the first instalment will be available in October each year, with the second instalment available the following January and the final payment due in April. For Scholars whose academic year begins later than October, alternative, but similar, arrangements will be put in place. 4.2 Scholarships will be awarded for the first year of study only (Level C). 4.3 Scholarships will be discontinued if, for any reason, the Scholar ceases to actively participate in the programme of study. 4.4 Scholarship awards can be withheld or adjusted to reduce an outstanding debt to Bournemouth University. 5. Scholarship Categories Scholarship Title: Academic Achievement – Major award Mode of Attendance: Full time (taught) Place of Attendance: Any course delivered at either Talbot Campus, Lansdowne Campus or Wiltshire College. Fee Category: UK or EU Level of Study: Undergraduate Honours Year 1 (Level C) – except for NHS Funded Criteria: Undergraduate – Bachelors Degree A Levels - Minimum 3 ‘A’ grades achieved in one year or BTEC National Diploma – Average 3 x Distinctions or Equivalent other UK or EU qualification (*see note below) Value of award: £3,000 cash Deadline for applying: 16th November of 1st year of study for full-time students whose course commences the Autumn term of that year. Note students may apply any time from 1st March of the year of entry basing their application on their predicated grades. However, awards will only be made once final results are known. 30th January for full-time students whose study commences in the Spring term of the following year *Access Courses will not be considered for 2012-13 entrants *Non-UK qualifications will be assessed against the UK equivalencies using NARIC *Refer to Appendix 1 for HEFCE Grade Equivalents to AAA Scholarship Title: Academic Achievement – Minor award Mode of Attendance: Full time (taught) Place of Attendance: Any course delivered at either Talbot Campus, Lansdowne Campus or Wiltshire College. Fee Category: UK or EU Level of Study: Undergraduate Honours Year 1 (Level C) – except for NHS Funded Criteria: Undergraduate – Bachelors Degree A Levels - AAB Grade or equivalent corresponding to HEFCE Guide or Equivalent other UK or EU qualification (*see note below) Value of award: £1,500 cash Deadline for applying: 16th November of 1st year of study for full-time students whose course commences the Autumn term of that year. Note students may apply any time from 1st March of the year of entry basing their application on their predicated grades. Partner College courses are not eligible for this Scholarship. Fee Category: UK or EU Level of Study: Undergraduate Year 1 (Level C) – NHS Funded and FdSc Paramedic Science Criteria: Undergraduate – Bachelors Degree and FdSc Paramedic Science A Levels - Minimum 3 ‘A’ grades achieved in one year (subjects required for condition of offer if relevant) or BTEC National Diploma – Average 3 x Distinctions or Equivalent other UK or EU qualification (*see note below) Value of award: £1,000 cash Deadline for applying: 16th November of 1st year of study for full-time students whose course commences the Autumn term of that year.
