Job Purpose
This position provides engineering support across the Infrastructure Planning & Asset
Management department with particular focus on asset management. This position will
assist in delivering asset management solutions within the agreed programs and budget
constraints and in compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations, City policies,
procedures and relevant Australian standards.

Organisational Context
The position of Graduate Engineer is part of the Infrastructure Planning & Asset
Management department within the Infrastructure Services directorate. In total, 5
departments report to the Infrastructure Services Director. Other departments include Fleet
Services, Project Design & Delivery, Infrastructure Maintenance & Renewals and Waste &
Energy Services.

Key Accountabilities

Provide technical civil engineering support to the Infrastructure Planning & Asset
Management department associated with asset management.

Maintain and update the City’s asset registers for various asset classes

Carry out site inspections and risk assessments

Undertake and/or manage condition assessment activities for City of Greater
Geraldton infrastructure assets including roads, pathways, drainage, parks and
buildings

Provision of accurate asset management advice

Conduct engineering investigations and provide recommendations.

Assist with maintenance and update of City of Greater Geraldton Asset Management
Plans for various assets where required.

Responsible for the timeliness and quality of deliverable tasks as per program.

Liaise with internal and external stakeholders.

Generate reports and attend meetings as required.

Provide a high standard of customer service.

Assist with other Infrastructure Planning and Asset Management priority projects as
needs emerge.

Budgets – Manage the operational budget to ensure that expenses are controlled
and monitored accurately. Report on budgetary deviations and develop strategies to
enable forward planning as required.


Person Specification
All criteria essential unless otherwise stated.
Qualifications, Certificates and Licences

Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering suitable for Graduate, Associate (or higher)
Membership with Engineers Australia.

Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence.
Experience
 Experience in maintaining and updating asset registers for various asset classes
including (but not limited to); roads, stormwater drainage, parks and buildings and
maintaining the integrity of the system.
 Experience in contributing to condition assessment activities.
 Experience in assisting with the delivery of asset management improvement plans.
 Experience in detailed design, project management, construction and/or other
complimentary field of expertise (desirable).
 Experience in assisting with development of Asset Renewal Programs (desirable).
Knowledge

Knowledge of asset management principles and practices including (but not limited
to); data registration, condition assessment, risk assessment, maintenance practices,
levels of service, asset revaluation/depreciation, forward planning, asset
management strategy, asset accounting and asset roles & responsibilities.

Sound understanding of properties of engineering materials (e.g. earth, concrete,
asphalt, steel etc.), their associated modes of failure & methods to promote asset
longevity.
Understanding of the overarching purpose of accurate and responsible asset
management systems and processes.
Sound knowledge of Asset Management Australian Standards, Manuals and sources
of best practice.
