2015 China Internship Program

The Stanford School of Engineering has been running a summer China Internship Program for
six years. The program aims to enhance engineering education by providing students an
opportunity to learn about China's rapidly expanding role in global business and technology and
to gain real-world work experience in a culturally diverse environment.
About 30 companies have already hosted our interns in Beijing, Shanghai, Kunshan, Hangzhou,
Shenzhen and Taipei. The hosting organizations include multinational and local companies.
Stanford engineering covers a broad range of majors including Aeronautics and Astronautics,
Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer
Science, Electrical Engineering, Management Science and Engineering, Material Science and
Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Product Design. Both undergraduate and graduate
students are eligible for this program. Each student must commit to full-time work for the 12week summer internship. A faculty-led selection committee will get involved in application
review before we recommend the best-matched candidates to the hosting organizations. The
detailed timeline of the program is shown on the next page.

Stanford committee reviews, selects, and recommends the

 Stanford forwards the files of the finalists to host

SECI provides an opportunity for an intern with 3D GIS modeling experience
using ArcGIS software like Desktop GIS, Server GIS, Mobile GIS, Online
GIS, etc., which is the major product of ESRI (Environmental Systems
Research Institute), other commercial software like AutoCAD is also used. The
GIS Intern’s primary role is to learn and apply his/her working and growing
knowledge to help perform various GIS roles on a project’s overall GIS efforts.
The work entails creating, managing and maintaining GIS databases and
projects for regional railway projects in China. The qualified candidate is
expected to perform a variety of GIS tasks to support the railway database
development and railway map production, and to assist the construction of the
integration of GIS model and SPIDer system, which is a super intelligent high
resolution scalable display system in SECI.

6:00 pm in the afternoon

transmission systems and information platform for safety assessment and
management of infrastructure construction and operation (high-speed railways,

degree seeking a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
2. A driven, self-motivated attitude, with the ability to work on your own
initiative

levels
4. A flexible approach to work (you may be required to relocate, as part of
your training)
5. Experience with ESRI GIS program, AutoCAD, Revit and Microstation,
preferred.
