Session # Workshop Title Description A01/B01 Get the Facts about Bullying “Bullying is more than just teasing”. “Anyone can be a victim”. These are a few of the facts about bullying. This workshop will discuss facts and address how you can do your part in preventing bullying. A02/B02 Weather Jeopardy Think you are a weather whiz? Test your knowledge in a game of Weather Jeopardy and learn about the Oklahoma Mesonet. Don’t lose all your points on the Double Jeopardy question! A03/B03 Speaking in Silence Have you been told to hush recently? Come to this introduction of American Sign Language to learn some words and phrases you can speak silently. Learn how you can incorporate ASL into 4-H! A04/B04 Try Your Hand with Photoshop Retouch and enhance your images with a number of easy-to-use techniques. Experiment with the many filters available with Photoshop! Bring 3 to 5 of your own images to the workshop or use those provided by the workshop. A05/B05 Oklahoma’s Berry Best Science and math come to life as we learn about some of Oklahoma’s specialty crops. This is a hands-on workshop. A06/B06 Experiment with Vitamin C Learn which foods are the best sources of vitamin C. You will also get to experiment to see if the way you store food and for how long changes the levels. A07/B07 Pop Tab Bracelets This is a great way to get 4-H members into reducing, reusing and recycling. Turn pop tabs into a fun and cool bracelet. Great idea for a camp workshop or other teen led workshop. A08/B08 Make or Save $$$ Using Enterprise Budget Software Excel-based Enterprise Budget Software helps analyze the costs and returns in production agriculture by projecting outcomes before committing resources. See if you can pencil in a profit before attempting to plow one! A09/B09 AgrAbility is at the HEART of Service Learning Service learning is all about helping people. Members will learn ways to help farmers/ranchers with a disability achieve success with assistive technology and gain public speaking tools to promote AgrAbility. A10/B10 Clover Camping This hands-on workshop will let you experience what it is like to carry your food, shelter and clothing for up to four days on a backpacking trip in the wilderness. Learn about proper gear selection and how to properly pack a backpack for hiking and camping in the backcountry. Also hear about great outdoor trips through 4-H and the OSU Outdoor Adventure program. A11/B11 4-H + OMK = Great Communities So how can 4-H partner with OMK (Operation: Military Kids) to create dynamic communities? And why is it important that we do this? Hands-on, action-packed, and creative thinking guaranteed for participants. A12/B12 Distracted Driving Ever thought you could text, talk and drive at the same time? How much does driving while impaired really affect your ability to drive? Come drive one of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau distracted driving go-carts and find out. A13 Agricultural and Environmental Chemistry Learn to extract phosphorus from soils and then measure it using colorimetric spectroscopy. Also learn to test some phosphorus sorbing materials and their ability to filter phosphorus. A14 Children’s Play in the U.S. and Around the World Lead the Way to Fuel Up and Play 60 This workshop will focus on the benefits of play for children and will examine play in the U.S. and around the world. A16 Energy Drinks Learn about the promotional claims made about energy drinks, ingredients and health question which have been raised regarding their use. A17 YOGA Basic introduction to yoga. Fun environment, non-competitive, both energizing and relaxing! Learn hatha yoga asanas (postures) to strengthen and tone the body, and pranayama exercises (breathing techniques) to awaken and focus the mind. A18 Tie Dye with a Twist Turn a plain white cotton pillowcase into a work of art! We will teach you how to dye cloth and create interesting colorful designs through folding, twisting or scrunching the fabric. All necessary equipment and materials will be supplied. A19 How Not to Break Your Gadgets OCES computer techs take a look at how consumer electronics (computers, laptops, tablets, phones and cameras) work, and how to avoid breaking them. We’ll cover all the ways in which you can keep from destroying your shiny new gadgets. A15 The National Football League and the National Dairy Council want to make kid’s health and wellness just as important as the ABCs in America’s schools. Fuel up to Play 60 empowers youth to take the lead for themselves and their peers. Learn how you and your friends can get things going in your school and use the free resources from Fuel Up to Play 60. This is a perfect partnership with 4-H! A20 Nutrition and Athletes Food is fuel for athletes (and everyone else)! Come and learn about eating habits that will improve your performance. B21 Renewable Energy Demonstration Participate in hands-on experiments and demonstrations of solar power and wind power. You will also get to see a trailer with a windmill and a solar panel. B22 Feed Grains – The Right Ingredients Do you know what you are feeding your livestock? This workshop will help you learn how to recognize important crop products commonly found in livestock feed. B23 Exploring Pain Relief: The Ins and Outs of Aspirin Where do we get aspirin? What’s in a typical aspirin tablet? How do different brands compare? Come do some experiments to get a clue about aspirin! B24 Fun with Tortillas In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the importance of bread as part of a healthy diet and learn to make their own flour tortillas in a bag. Plus...they will get to eat them for a snack! B25 Eat Well, Look Good Your eating habits affect your looks as well as your overall health. Learn how specific nutrients are connected to your hair, nails, skin and more. B26 Cancelled Clues to Better Food Choices What do you look for when you look for healthful foods? In the spirit of the “Eat This, Not That” books, we will look at the characteristics of better food choices. B27 Cupcake Leader Come develop your personal recipe for leadership! In this sweet workshop, you will learn the key ingredients to being a great leader while you build your own recipe for your leadership cupcake (and yes, you get to eat the cupcakes!). B28 How Agriculture is Working to End World Hunger This interactive workshop will look at creative ways that agriculturalists are working to end world hunger. B29 Intro to Poultry Judging Learn how a Poultry Judging contest is ran and how to judge! C01 Exploring Entomology with the OSU Insect Adventure! Experience first-hand the only live insect petting zoo in Oklahoma! Hold a 10-inch millipede and look a tarantula right in its 8 eyes Learn about the world’s most diverse group of animals and their importance to daily lives. Get answers to all those questions that have been “bugging” you and explore entomology up close and personal. C02 4-H Leatherwork Create a useable leather project that you design. C03 Cut Your Name in Metal Design a name stencil or other simple design and cut it out of steel using the PlasmaCam. C04 Real Colors: Stars and Sailboats Are you Blue, Gold, Orange or Green? Psychologists have explored human behavior and reflected on personality differences. During this fun workshop, 4-H members will identify their own temperament/personality as they relate to these four colors. C05 Get a Clue with the OKC Zoo Become an expert wildlife tracker while discovering clues that animals leave behind! C06 Basics for AgriRobotics C07 Science of Shooting Sports Many agricultural operations are now automated and even conducted by robots. The class will provide basic knowledge of agriRobots. Students will work with electronic components, learn soldering techniques, and build and test a small robot. 4‐H shooting sports is a great way to show how science, technology, engineering, and math are part of the 4‐H projects. This workshop will provide hands‐on STEM activities that directly relate to shooting sports. C08 Round Pens and Halters Join this hands-on workshop to learn about basic round pen work for colts, verbal cues and body positioning. Also learn how to safely secure halters and typing. C09 This Into That! Use your sewing skills to up-cycle a thrift store find! You can learn how to design on a dime!. C10 Storytelling with Video Learn about composition and sequencing from the OSU Sunup TV Producer/Director
