Name ____________________________________ Date __________ Period__________ Rainbow Lab Objectives: 1. Develop skills measuring chemicals with a graduated cylinder. 2. Practice using the metric system. 3. Test precision and ability to follow directions. 4. Practice lab safety procedures. Materials: 6 Test tubes labeled A, B, C, D, E, F Test tube rack Graduated cylinder 2 beakers Beaker with red liquid Beaker with yellow liquid Beaker with blue liquid Goggles Paper towels Procedure: Part 1: Before you begin, put your goggles on and do not remove them until you walk out the classroom. 1. Label 6 test tubes in order: A, B, C, D, E & F. 2. Fill a beaker half full with water. Use this to rinse your graduated cylinder and test tubes. 3. The second beaker is for waste water. 4. Measure 21 mL of RED liquid using the graduated cylinder and pour into test tube A. 5. Rinse the graduated cylinder with your water and pour the waste into your waste beaker. 6. Measure 17 mL of YELLOW liquid and pour into test tube C. 7. Measure 21 mL of BLUE liquid and pour into test tube E. Part 2: Rinse the graduated cylinder with clean water between each measurement. 1. From test tube C, measure 4 mL and pour into test tube D. 2. From test tube E, measure 7 mL and pour into test tube D. Swirl. 3. From test tube E, measure 4 mL and pour into test tube F. 4. From test tube A, measure 7 mL and pour into test tube F. Swirl. 5. From test tube A, measure 8 mL and pour into test tube B. 6. From test tube C, measure 3 mL and pour into test tube B. Swirl. 7. Measure the contents of each test tube and record how many mL are in each test tube in your data table. Also, record the color in each test tube. 8. Create a bar graph of your results. Use color for each respective test tube. 1 Name ____________________________________ Date __________ Period__________ Table 1: Test Tube Results Test Tube Color of Liquid A B C D E F Amount of Liquid (mL) Title: Rainbow Lab Results 0- Test Tube 2 Amount of Liquid (mL) Name ____________________________________ Date __________ Period__________ Analysis/Results: 1.
