The Curavis Fund Scholarship (Established in 2014 by an anonymous gift from a UQ Civil Engineering graduate and his wife) 1 Purpose The purpose of the scholarship is to provide support to students who have been educational disadvantage due to socio-economic and/or geographic isolationand commencing their first year of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program, to live in a residential college at The University of Queensland (UQ). 2 Definitions In these rulesApproved undergraduate Engineering program includes the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program or integrated Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) / Master of Engineering program or a dual program that includes the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program. Approved Residential College means any residential colleges located on the University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus Associate Dean means the Associate Dean (Academic), Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology. Priorty Equity High Schools means schools that are low socio economic status by Education Queensland National Partnership Equity Schools and UQ’s Priority Equity High Schools Relevant field means any field of engineering in the approved undergraduate engineering program. Scholarship means the Curavis Fund Scholarship. 3 (1) (2) 4 Award and Value of scholarship The value of the scholarship is $10,000 per annum, for up to two years. It will be used as a reduction in the residential fees payable by the recipient or recipients of the scholarship for their accommodation at an approved residential college. The Associate Dean may award the scholarship to another person in a later year only if an earlier recipient no longer holds the scholarship. Eligibility for award An applicant is eligible for the scholarship, if the applicant(a) (b) (c) (d) (e) (f) 5 (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) 6 (1) (2) is a domestic student within the meaning of the Fee Rules; and has completed year 11 and 12 studies in Australia; and is enrolled full-time in the first year of an approved undergraduate engineering program in the year of the award; and does not hold another scholarship that the Associate Dean considers to be similar; can demonstrate educational disadvantage due to socio-economic and/or geographic isolation. evidence demonstrating educational disadvantage includes: (i) schooling completed at Priority Equity High Schools; (ii) personal and financial statements attesting to educational disadvantage due to socio-economic and/or geographic isolation. Selection of award If there is only one eligible student, the Associate Dean will award a $10,000 scholarship as a reduction in residential fees in the student’s first year at The University of Queensland, and a further $10,000 in their second year. If there are two eligible students, the Associate Dean will award two scholarships of $10,000 each as a reduction in residential fees in the students’ first year. If there are three or more eligible students, the Associate Dean, or their nominee, may interview all students, and select two students to receive scholarships of $10,000 as a reduction in residential fees in the students’ first year. In the case of (3), the scholarship is awarded to the applicants who demonstrate considerable merit and potential to succeed in approved undergraduate Engineering program based on their interest in the discipline and their academic achievement. If there are no eligible students, the scholarship will be rolled forward to the following year. Conditions for scholarship The scholarship may be held as follows: (a) One recipient will hold the scholarship for up to 2 years; (b) Two recipients will hold the scholarship for 1 year; Subject to the recipient or recipients (a) continuing to be enrolled in a full-time study load of 6 units or more per semester of a relevant program; and (b) maintaining a minimum GPA of 4 for each semester of study and passing all courses in which they are enrolled; and (c) continuing to be a resident at an approved residential college. . If a recipient fails to satisfy rule 6(1), the recipient must show cause to the Associate Dean as to why the scholarship should not be cancelled.
