Adolescent Program
Background: Results of recent alumni, employer, and exit surveys consistently suggest that our
graduates feel less prepared in the areas of classroom management skills and the ability to
use technology in the classroom than in other areas.
Please answer the following questions regarding your program:
 How is classroom management being addressed in the program?
- explicit lessons/assessments in 631 and we are working to connect 631 and 640 more closely in
this area.
- At least one session on explicit class management strategies in 640 and the emphasis on using
effective instructional planning to support effect class management (Weinstein and case studies)
- Requirement of all MST students to take 684, focusing on management

 Please provide one or two action steps that your program will take to improve the area of classroom
management instruction.

Continue to align 631 and 640 and explore sequencing which will allow them to be taken
together

Make content related to class management explicit in course sessions rather than implicit as part
of good instructional planning

Orient field supervisors to insure explicit discussion, support and evaluation of class management
competencies

- 642 has a requirement to create a lesson using technology in a value-added way and there is a
course session on technology in the social studies

request more available technology including Smartboards (only one classroom in Miller and
one in Buchsbaum and one In NYC) Elmo, IPads, Flip cameras, electronic data collection and
analysis tools

differentiated professional development, including professional development for adjuncts
