Teaching and Learning Coordinator
1. Role and Purpose
The Teaching and Learning Coordinator (TLC) is a member of the College Curriculum Team and carry
the primary responsibility for the ongoing development and supervision of the curriculum and quality of
teaching and learning that is provided for each student in their Key Learning Area.
The Teaching and Learning Coordinator exercises leadership and management of the Key Learning
Area and is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the curriculum and
pedagogies of subject programmes.
As a leader, the Teaching and Learning Coordinator has designated responsibility from the Principal for
the development and articulation of implementing literacy, numeracy and formation goals aligned to the
College’s Implementation Plans and the Strategic Intent of Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta
(CEDP).
2. Role Responsibility
As a delegated leader and member of the College Curriculum Team, the Teaching and Learning
Coordinator is responsible to the Principal through the Curriculum Coordinator and the Coordinator for
Teaching and Learning.
3. Role Accountability
The Teaching and Learning Coordinator will exercise effective team leadership for the development and
support of a cohesive and efficient Key Learning Area team in line with the organisational structure of
the College.
3.1
Climate of Excellence
To encourage a culture of personal excellence in student academic performance through the
collaborative relationships among teachers, students and parents and the promotion of an
effective climate of quality teaching and learning
3.2
Pedagogical Leadership
3.2.1 To collaborate with members of the KLA team in the development of appropriate
pedagogical strategies which support the literacy, numeracy and formation goals of the
College.
3.2.2 To ensure that members of the KLA team have opportunities to share and develop these
strategies to build a greater understanding of the literacy, numeracy and formation goals
of the College.
3.2.3 To share with colleagues on the College Curriculum Team innovative pedagogical
approaches which support these goals.
3.3
Curriculum Leadership
3.3.1 To provide leadership and support to teachers in the development and implementation of
a variety of best practice teaching and learning strategies and regularly visit classrooms
for Instructional Walks and Lesson Observation in collaboration with staff.

3.3.2
To work in collaboration with the Learning Support team to ensure that teachers have
appropriate support for students so that these students are appropriately identified,
supported and challenged.
3.3.3 To implement effective practices within the KLA for the regular monitoring of student
progress and academic standards.
3.3.4 To ensure that members of the KLA are aware of, and compliant with BOSTES and
Diocesan requirements in regard to course specifications, mandatory hours, assessment
tasks, assessment criteria and accurate record keeping.
3.3.5 To work closely with the Curriculum Coordinator, the Coordinator of Teaching and
Learning and the College Curriculum Team the ongoing evaluation and development of
curriculum policies
3.3.6 To ensure the follow-up of students’ results by teachers which allows for the opportunities
for students to improve academically and/or achieve the outcomes for the course.
3.3.7 To lead the KLA in the implementation of the ongoing collaborative review of programmes
and pedagogy.
3.3.8 To oversee courses offered within the KLA in regard to the provision of appropriate
academic challenge for each student.
3.3.9 To collaborate with the Curriculum Coordinator to ensure that student reports reflect
syllabus and programme outcomes.
3.3.10 To work closely with Learning Resource Centre teacher to ensure that KLA staff have
appropriate access to information resources.
3.4
Management and Administration
3.4.1 In collaboration with the Assistant Principal and the Coordinator of Teaching and Learning,
ensure staff, new to the KLA, are inducted into the school and into the KLA.
3.4.2 In collaboration with the Coordinator of Teaching and Learning, regularly meet with and
observe first and second year New Scheme Teachers and provide written feedback to
support their application to the NSW Institute of Teachers and/or the Australian Institute of
Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL)
3.4.3 In collaboration with the Coordinator of Teaching and Learning, regularly meet with and
observe all members of staff in the KLA as National Professional Standards for Teachers
become mandatory by 2018 in order to support each staff member’s applications for
appropriate professional standards to AITSL.
3.4.4 Meet regularly with staff in the development and review of the teacher’s annual
Professional Learning Plan.
3.4.5 Regularly review each staff member’s programmes and registers ensuring accuracy and
alignment to assessment.
3.4.6 With the Assistant Principal and Curriculum Coordinator, organise and calendar
appropriate and regular KLA meeting times
3.4.7 Ensure that KLA meetings have a strong learning focus and are not administrative alone.
3.4.8 At report time, ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of each staff member’s reports.
3.4.9 To collaborate with KLA staff to ensure they are adequately supported in the development
and implementation of effective pedagogy and classroom management practices.
3.4.10 With the Business manager, participate in the College budget process to ensure the needs
of the KLA are appropriately represented and allow for regular upgrading of resources.
3.4.11 To ensure that appropriate booklists and stationery lists are developed for each subject
aligned to the College policy.
3.4.12 Assist the Learning Resource Centre teacher with the annual stocktake of resources
3.4.13 With the Curriculum Coordinator and other Teaching and Learning Coordinators,
contribute to the process of allocating students and teachers to classes where appropriate.

3.4.14 With the Curriculum Coordinator ensure that students are provided with accurate and
relevant subject information and guidance so that they can make informed subject
choices.
3.4.15 Attend assemblies, Parent/Teacher evenings, Information evenings and other meetings as
deemed appropriate by the Principal.
3.4.16 Participate in the selection process for the appointment of new KLA staff members
3.4.17 With the Assistant Principal, facilitate excursions, incursions, field-trips, internal and
external bookings of College resources and guest speakers.
3.4.18 To assist in ensuring that all activities within the KLA comply with relevant statutory
requirements such as OH&S and chemical safety
3.4.19 In KLAs with practical course, to ensure that Occupational Health and Safety requirements
are met in providing safe, clean and tidy practices, equipment and materials for students.
3.4.20 In KLAs with practical courses. To supervise the work of ancillary staff and to ensure the
specific requisitioning and maintenance of equipment which support student learning.
4. Review of Position
4.1
The Teaching and Learning Coordinator will liaise with the Curriculum Coordinator each year
to set goals for the KLA which can be easily measured. These goals must centre on student
learning and can focus sharply on a particular subject in the KLA and a particular stage or year
group.
4.2
The Teaching and Learning Coordinator will liaise with the Curriculum Coordinator each year
to develop a Professional Learning Plan which can be easily measured. These plans must be
aligned with the College Implementation Plans, aligned to Professional Knowledge and
Professional Practice and include Professional Engagement.
4.3
The Teaching and Learning Coordinator should meet with a peer coordinator twice a term to
discuss the progress of the Professional learning Plan
4.4
In Term IV, the Teaching and learning Coordinator will meet with the Curriculum Coordinator
and Principal to discuss the results of: (a) The goals of the KLA and (b) The professional
Learning Plan.
