The Lake County School District serves the educational needs of over 40,000 students through the dedication of over 5,500 employees. The district maintains twenty-four elementary schools, ten middle schools, and eight high schools. School East Ridge High School is a comprehensive four-year public high school enrolling 2,148 students in grades 9-12. East Ridge High School serves the Clermont/south Lake County with a subgroup population of White (46%), Black/AfricanAmerican (14%), Hispanic (34%), Asian (2%), Multiracial/Other (4%), Economically Disadvantaged (51%), ESL (6%), and ESE (10%). The school opened in the fall of 2002 and graduated its first senior class in the spring of 2004. East Ridge High School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools/Advanced Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS/CASI). East Ridge High School is a member of College Board. Curriculum The academic program is delivered through a seven-period day. Students may accelerate through Lake Virtual School, Florida Virtual School, or dual enrollment at Lake-Sumter State College. East Ridge High School offers the following Advanced Placement courses: Art History, Art 2D, Art Drawing, Art 3D, Biology, Calculus AB, Chemistry, Comparative Government and Politics, English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, Environmental Science, European History, French Language and Culture, Human Geography, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Music Theory, Physics 1, Psychology, Spanish Language, Statistics, United States Government and Politics, United States History, and World History. AP is an open-enrollment program. East Ridge High School does not limit the number of courses a student can take and the district pays for all AP exams for courses taken on campus. Honors classes are offered when there is not a comparable Advanced Placement course available. East Ridge High School’s core Honors courses include English 1, English 2, English 4 College Prep, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Anatomy & Physiology, and Earth/Space Science. Honors credit is also available in a variety of upper-level careertechnical classes and as a linked course with AP Chemistry, AP Physics, and AP Biology. East Ridge High School offers fifteen career-technical programs. Industry certification availability is annotated with an asterisk: Allied Health Assisting*, Applied Cybersecurity, Architectural Drafting, Automotive Collision, Repair and Refinishing*, Business Supervision and Management*, Certified Nursing Assistant*, Commercial Art Technology*, Culinary Arts*, Early Childhood Education*, International Business*, Agritechnology*, Marketing*, Pathways to Engineering*, and Television Production*. The school also offers an array of fine and performing arts including: marching band, concert band, chorus, 2-D art, ceramics, drama, and musical theater. Prior to 2012, class rank was determine to the 1/10 place value. Grade Point Average (GPA) GPA is calculated using quality points. All high school credits, even when taken before entry into 9th grade, are included in the computation. A minimum of 24 credits and a 2.0 GPA is required for graduation. GPA is recalculated at midterm, mid-year, and June.
