Board Recruitment
Plymouth Culture is looking for new members to join its board. Plymouth Culture has recently
appointed a new Executive Director and is now refreshing its board to provide expertise on various
culture related sectors.
What is Plymouth Culture?
Plymouth Culture was set up to provide strategic direction for cultural development across the city
and to oversee the effective development and delivery of ‘The Vital Spark’ – a culture plan for
Plymouth, developed in 2009. This strategy is now being refreshed. The role of the board is to
support Plymouth Culture through providing advice, influence, expertise, knowledge and contacts
and so help Plymouth Culture to provide strategic direction on culture for the city.
It is anticipated that Plymouth Culture board will meet no more than six times a year
What do we mean by culture?
Culture is essentially about us as people and what make us tick. It is all of those things that help
make up our quality of life: opportunities to meet up with family and friends, or to take part in
activities we enjoy, like kicking a ball, making music, seeing a film, going to the, theatre, taking a
walk, reading a book or surfing. It means opportunities to learn something new, get fit and feel
healthy, volunteer in our communities, and work out who we are and what we want to do with our
lives.
Major forthcoming areas of focus for Plymouth Culture are:
• Mayflower 2020
• Capital developments such as The History Centre, Ocean Studios and The House
• Community engagement in cultural activities
• Development of a public art strategy and festival
• International collaboration
