Abstract
Background:. For planning control program, it is necessary to monitor change over time and the
present study was conducted to provide information on HCC and CCA incidence rates in Udon
Thani Cancer Registry.
Objective: To assess trend in CCA and HCC of Udon Thani province during2005 - 2009.
Methods: Data of liver cancer with an ICD-O (coding C22, C24.0, 24.8-9) from the populationbased cases of the Udon Thani Cancer Registry, registered between 2005 and 2009, were
retrieved and incidence trends were calculated.
Results: The study population comprised 4,830 cases, 2473 of HCC(males 1573 female 900)
and 2357 of CCA (males 1517, females 840. Most cases were aged 50-75 years.
The age-standardized incidence rates (ASR) for liver cancer were 101.49, 97.25, 87.96, 73.87
per 100 000 in males and 48.50, 46.78, 44.11, 44.98 and 37.96 per 100 000 in females,
respectively. The annual percent change for HCC were -18.13[-38.14, 8.36] and -6.90[-39.64,
43.59] decreasing both male and female, CCA were -2.65[-11.20, 6.71] and -5.76 [-15.56, 5.19]
decreasing both male and female.
Discussion: The result of this study showed slightly decreased in the incidence of CCA but
slightly increased in the incidence of HCC
However better diagnostic tests and recording data systems showed the trend of
decreasing in the incidence of CCA and increasing in the incidence of HCC . This finding brings
to further studies to indentify that
1. Changing in eating behavior campaign could reduce the risk of CCA.
2. What will be factors that increase the incidence of HCC.
