Brain teasers Bk. 3 pg 77
Previous knowledge: Children are able to discuss the type of weather in pictures (sunny, rainy,
cloudy or windy)
Objective: Through discussion children will be able to:
1.
Identify the different types of weather in Belize.
2. Predict the types of climate in the different months.
3. Design and construct a model of a rain gauge.
Concepts to be developed: There are three different types of weather in Belize ‘wet, dry and
cool’
Weather: The state of the atmosphere with respect to heat or cold, wetness or dryness calm or
storm, clearness or cloudiness
Climate: A region having specific climate conditions.

Dry season Is from March to late May or early June

Rainy season from June to November

Cool season vary because since Belize is a tropical country the weather here changes
often. Cool weather is around October to March.
Skills to be taught:

Observe weather and climate in Belize.

Discuss the different weather changes in Belize.

Create a rain gauge
Attitudes:

Appreciation for the weather and climate of Belize

Confidence in naming the three different types of weather in Belize

Awareness of the water cycle

Willingness

Participation in activities
Materials to be used:
 Flash cards & pictures
 Plastic bottle
 Strip with measurements in inches
 Tape
 Calendar
 Map of Belize (showing climate)
Linkage: Math (Data Handling), Arts and Craft (Three Dimensional Design), General Science
(The Weather)
Introduction: Children will sing the song “The Weather song”. Elicit from children what the
topic is going to be about (weather).
Development: Using pictures have children identify the different types of weather and the
weather names (sunny, rainy, cloudy, and windy). Ask children what type of weather do we have
today in Belize?
Given these pictures and flash cards with the weather names have children find their partners that
match the pictures to its name.
Through discussion prompt children by asking if they know any other types of weather we have
in Belize? (Wet, dry and cool).
With the aid of a calendar have children make prediction on which months we have each of these
weather. (Wet months: June- Nov., dry months: late May to early June, cool months: October to
March)
On blackboard write down the different months in one column and weather conditions
usually experienced in an adjacent one. If experience does not allow children to state specifically
whether the weather would be hot and dry or hot and wet during a particular month, use
statistical charts from the meteorological office to interpret the dry months and wet
months. Group wet months together under one column and dry months under another. This
should allow children to see that the wettest days seem to be grouped together in certain
months while the driest are in others.
Have students define the words weather and climate in their own words. Write it on the board,
make adjustments where necessary. Remind them that weather and climate are not the same.
Given the statistics on the climate in Belize, have children identify the districts with the most
rainfall and least rainfall on the map of Belize.
Conclusion: Given a word search puzzle on weather and weather related words children will
complete this puzzle.
Extended Activity: Children will make a model of a rain gauge.

Weather Song
By Jaela
This is pretty easy. During my morning meeting, I have someone go to the window and
check the weather out. While they're heading out there, we sing this song=) Hope this is
something you like!
Weather Song
(to the tune of "Oh My Darling")
What’s the weather?
What’s the weather?
What’s the weather, everyone?
Is it windy?
Is it cloudy?
Is there rain?
Or is there sun?
Weather Helper, Weather Helper
what’s the weather outside?
Go and look out the window,
Tell us what you see outside.
What's the weather?
What's the weather?
What's the weather tell everyone?
Is it windy? Is it cloudy? Is there rain? Or is there sun?
