Annual Report 2013
Happy New Year Friends,
Happy New Year Friends,
We decided after all the positive comments from last year’s Annual
Report, to stay with a more simplified annual report. This year we are
including our end of the year report (next page) which reflects all of
our activity over the past year. One thing that stands out is that we
were very busy. Most of the chart is self-explanatory but the “Value of
the PIN Program” and the Value of Medical Equipment may need
explanation.
The Patient In Need or PIN programs are the programs offered by the pharmaceutical companies for low income
patients. If the patient is uninsured and meets the company’s criteria, the medications are sent to the Clinic free
of charge for the patient. Our nurses do the paperwork and when the medications come in they check the
medications against the order and then give them to the patient. The value of the drugs that came in to the Clinic
from this program was $648,487.83 in 2013. This is an incredible savings for our patients and for the Clinic. The
cost of administering this program in 2013 was partially paid for by the Marshall Community Foundation and Eaton
Corporation.
The medical equipment refers to such items as diabetic supplies and c-pap machines for sleep apnea. We have
negotiated a very good price for these items with Oaklawn Home Medical Equipment. The $6,704.00 represents
about 30% of the actual cost of these items.
This would not be a complete annual report without thanking our volunteer physicians, dentists, physical
therapists, respiratory therapists and physician assistant many of them have been with us from the beginning
almost 22 years ago. We could not have treated over 1000 individual patients in 2013 without their dedication
and generosity.
I would also like to say a word about my great staff pictured below. They are all very dedicated to the mission of
the Clinic. Every one of them is willing to go the extra mile for their patients and they do so almost every day.
Finally we had to say good bye to two wonderful friends of the Fountain Clinic-Dr. Tom Dobbins and Kathy Tarr.
They both did so much for our patients for which we will always be grateful. May they rest in peace.

The Affordable Health Care
It is 2014 and we will be seeing many of our patients receive insurance and in April many will qualify for Medicaid
under the Medicaid Expansion. Last fall we decided to have two of our employees trained by the Center for
Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS) to be Certified Application Counselors. Maureen (Mo) Marshall and Cheryl
Hinds took the training and since October have been assisting patients and the general public in signing up for
insurance through the Exchanges. How many of our patients will qualify for insurance or Medicaid is something
we won’t know for several months. The experts tell us there will still be a need for the free clinics to fill the gaps
and to see the patients who cannot find a physician. With the community’s support we will be here, as we have
been for the last 22 years, to care for those who are in need of health care and do not have anywhere to go.
