Mayor’s Report for February 24, 2014 Allied Waste will begin delivering the new trash containers sometime this week. While some neighborhoods may see the new trash cans in a few days, it will take several weeks before the whole city is covered. If you wish to have your old trash can removed from your property please mark it by writing “Take me” on it and put it out with your trash. As I had announced last Monday, Brad Fairfield has resigned from the position of business liaison for the city. He will continue to help the city, on a voluntary basis, to pursue a number of projects that he has been working on for a number of months. In his place we have hired Janine Mackert to fill the position of business liaison. Ms. Mackert has a Masters in Public Administration from Cleveland State University and had worked for the City of Lorain in its Community Development Department for ten years. She has had success in grant writing and also developing professional relationships with public and private stakeholders in order to attract new opportunities to grow and develop in the City of Lorain. The City of Avon Lake has a redesigned website and our goal was make it more informative and user-friendly. We encourage you to visit avonlake.org to find out what’s going on in our town. Your suggestions as how to improve the site are always welcomed. I received a call from Mark Baird from NRG last week and he informed me that NRG will begin the process of contacting residents along a proposed pipeline route from south of Grafton all the way up to Avon Lake in order to obtain easements for the natural gas project. This is the first step in the very complicated project. It is my understanding that the mayors of the cities in which the pipeline will run through have been contacted and briefed by NRG about the project. Service and Engineering Department manager Joe Reitz informed me this afternoon that we have spent $72,226 on overtime in the service department so far this year. This is in just seven weeks. We will need to make an adjustment to our budget in the coming weeks to anticipate a shortfall in that line item. The Ward Four meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 26 at 7:00 pm at Troy School. If you can’t attend the meeting please go to avonlake.org and watch one of the Ward meetings posted on our website.
