Intercollegiate Athletics has requested that a line of progression be developed for the Specialist
and Manager of Men’s Basketball Player Development in order to provide additional assistance
to the basketball coaches in areas of organizing, planning, and communicating direction and
information to staff and players.

Specialist, Men’s Basketball Player Development
Manager, Men’s Basketball Operations
Essential Function: Light Work
Description: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently,
and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Light work requires walking or standing
to a significant degree and pushing and/or pulling.

Range 1:
The Specialist, Men’s Basketball Player Development, is responsible for providing assistance to
the coaching staff in areas of organization, planning, and communication as well as aspects of
social media recruitment and student-athlete academics. The position mentors student-athletes
in relation to leadership and life skills as well as participation in community service projects.
The Specialist acts as a liaison between the men’s basketball program and athletics
administration as well as with academics counseling. The position assists with game video
breakdown by watching film with staff and players and video editing of game highlights for social
media recruiting. The position assists with on-campus recruitment analysis and assists with
logistics of recruit visits and management of the recruit database and board.
Range 2 (in addition to Range 1 above):
The Manager, Men’s Basketball Player Development, manages all areas of team travel, film
exchange program, scheduling and managing facilities, communication with the academic staff,
assisting the Head Coach with basketball game schedules, and co-directing the summer
basketball camps. The position coordinates all on-campus recruiting functions for potential
men’s basketball student-athletes and responds to all public inquires and questions about
Nevada men’s basketball recruiting. The individual works with the men’s basketball staff on all
matters in regards to on-campus recruiting. The position co-directs the summer camps and
clinics and acts as the liaison for the program with alumni, strength and conditioning staff,
university facilities, and department sports information office.

Range 1 - Specialist:
30% - Men’s Basketball Operations and Program Support
 Assist with weekly video/graphic editing and breakdown and creation by watching film
with staff and players for posting highlight clips/graphics to social media
 Ensure compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Conference,
and university rules and regulations (subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set
forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures)
 When practical, ICA staff is encouraged to voluntarily attend all athletic events to
promote audience participation and support for the University’s team efforts
30% - Program Liaison and Communication
 Provide assistance to the coaching staff including organization, planning, and
communication
 Monitor the program’s social media efforts for recruitment and information
communication
20% - Recruiting Activities
 Coordinate records of all recruits and prospective recruits, manage database
 Conduct research regarding recruit activities to maintain accurate and current
information regarding recruit statistics
 Inform coaches of recruit activities prior to coach site-visits with recruits, develop talking
points for coaches which demonstrate knowledge in recruit interests
 Produce reports of men’s basketball recruitment activities upon request
 Organize official and unofficial recruit visits, provide tours, liaise with departments on
campus such as Admissions and Records on behalf of or with the recruit
 Coordinate logistics for the scholarship limit model
 Assist with management of social media for player recruiting
20% - Student-Athlete Counseling and Support
 Assist with development of student-athletes, serving as a mentor and contributing to
their overall development with leadership and life skills
Range 2 – Manager (in addition to Range 1 duties above):
30% - Men’s Basketball Operations and Program Support
 Assist Head Men’s Basketball Coach in day-to-day administrative operations of total
program, including internal and external communications with faculty and staff, facility
scheduling, film exchange, and summer basketball camps
 Manage weekly video/graphic editing and breakdown and creation by watching film with
staff and players for posting highlight clips/graphics to social media
 Coordinate the team’s life-skills program
 Coordinate the logistics for Summer camps, staff visits and clinics
 Oversee facility maintenance needs on a "day to day" basis
 Assist Head Coach with monitoring student-athlete academic progress
 Coordinate Men’s Basketball team travel for all regular season away contests

Prepare travel itineraries
Coordinate transportation, hotel arrangements, meals, and practice times
Coordinate and distribute per diem to the appropriate members of the travel party
Reconcile all travel expenses
Serve as liaison to the Compliance Office on all travel related issues
Oversee distribution of staff tickets for away games
Work and coordinate with visiting men’s basketball teams to schedule practice times and
game day activities
30% - Program Liaison and Communication
 Serve as liaison between the men’s basketball program and athletics administration,
including facilities, marketing and promotions, game operations, development, ticketing,
athletic training/strength and conditioning, and media relations
 Participate in and serve as a liaison with all men’s basketball community service projects
and public relations
 Serve as the liaison with ICA’s sports information office on all men’s basketball program
issues
20% - Recruiting Activities
 In conjunction with Head Coach, coordinate recruitment strategies
 Oversee all inquiries and correspondence with recruits
 Manage recruitment tape program including tape analysis (break down), evaluation and
coordination with position coaches
 Organize and coordinate travel and itineraries for on-campus recruiting visits
 Oversee and monitor the football team’s recruiting budget
 Serve as liaison to the Compliance Office on all recruiting matters
 Manage social media for player recruiting
20% - Student-Athlete Counseling and Support
 Serve as a liaison for the academics area of the men’s basketball program including
grade monitoring, study hall monitoring, and class checks
 Coordinate the team’s life-skills program
 Assist players with finding summer jobs
 Work with all new men’s basketball student-athletes on all issues pertaining to incoming
students with NCAA clearinghouse, dorms, applications, etc

Range 1
Athletics is one of the most publicly visible programs on campus to the public, potential donors,
and donors. The Specialist has creative freedom with all aspects of social media recruiting. The
incumbent determines appropriate methods, priorities, and resources required when receiving
an assignment and has significant autonomy to attain key goals with respect to social recruiting
efforts. Position needs to be ensure that all postings are compliant with the National Collegiate
Athletics Association (NCAA) rules and regulations for recruiting practices.

Range 2
The Manager works independently with little direct supervision and with considerable latitude for
initiative and independent judgment. The incumbent determines appropriate methods, priorities,
and resources required when receiving an assignment and has significant autonomy to attain
key goals related to team performance. The individual makes decisions on scheduling and
travel coordination, which are reported to the Head Coach, in accordance with regulations and
in the best interest of the University. The Operations Manager works with the coaching staff on
arranging campus recruitment visits, planning travel, and in working with alumni.

Range 1
The position reports to and consults with the Head Coach, Men’s Basketball on matters
regarding the social media posting of weekly player awards and any use of the Head Men’s
Basketball Coach’s name. Failure to follow NCAA guidelines regarding recruitment policies
could result in loss of scholarships, vacating wins, or other penalties/sanctions against the
Nevada Football Program.
Range 2
The position consults with the supervisor and management on long-term goals for the unit.
