international standard, but is not an ISO or IEC adoption.
5.
Provide an explanation of the need for the project:
(If revision, note need for revision due to new reports,
tests, data, etc.)
Check here if this standard includes excerpted text from an ISO or IEC
standards but is not an identical or modified adoption of an international
standard.
Advances in in situ and remote sensing instrumentation,
computer technologies and quality assurance techniques
for handling meteorological data require revisions to the
existing standard.
6.
Identify the stakeholders (e.g., telecom, consumer,
medical, environmental, etc.) likely to be directly impacted
by the standard:
Owner/operator and federal facility meteorologists,
emergency planners, environmental scientists, NEPA
specialists, and safety analysts. DOE Meteorological
Coordinating Council (DMCC), Nuclear Utility
Meteorological data User Group (NUMUG), and the
Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
7.
Scope Summary:
The standard includes the identification of which
meteorological parameters should be measured relative
to the program, meteorological parameter accuracies,
meteorological tower siting considerations, data
monitoring methodologies, data reduction techniques
and quality assurance requirements.
(Provide a one paragraph description, not to exceed 650
characters including spaces. Should be written as it
will appear in the published standard (present tense
verb). If necessary, scope in standard may be longer
provided that it is editorially the same.

Probable Standards Users:
The working group is asked to identify key potential world-wide standards users in various organizations. An ANS Standards Committee procedure tentatively entitled “ANS
Standards User Data Base” is in development to provide detailed requirements on completing this section. The purpose is to use this information to keep potential standards users
up-to-date on the developments of ANS standards that may be of interest to them. The ultimate goal is to increase awareness of the standards effort and increase sales. As the
working group members are knowledgeable in the field of the proposed standard/revision, it is expected that they know of other persons in the industry that would be interested. It
is recognized that this will not be a comprehensive industry list, but it is a start.
