Dear Mrs. Griffith:
What would help teenagers remain physically, emotionally, and mentally fit? The answer is a carefully equipped teen
center. As you know, Moore has acquired a grant to build a community center, which will include a wing specifically devoted to
teenagers. Naturally, the town council needs some counsel from teenagers in order to create a teen wing that will maximize the
potential of the town’s adolescent citizens. With this in mind, the features that must be included in this teen wing are an indoor
track, a counseling center led by teenagers, and a distance-learning center.
As mentioned, the first feature of this teen wing must be an indoor track. This track will be located on the top floor of
the community center, will be a quarter mile in circumference, and will be surrounded by windows for an excellent view of the
neighborhood. Moreover, the track will be composed of the same rubber-like material found on any respectable school’s
outdoor track, and the lanes and starting-place markings will be painted in accordance with state-track-meet regulations.
Granted, this track will be costly, and its specifications will require some time-consuming work and maintenance. However, the
track will quickly pay for itself, and the teenage patrons can be put to some productive work, as they can help maintain the
track. Not only will the town’s teenage citizens benefit from the physical fitness and catharsis that running provides, but Moore
will also benefit from the money that it will surely receive as teams from all over the state come to compete and work out on
this magnificent track, which will boast a bird’s eye view of the town.
The next feature that must be included in the teen wing is a counseling center that is led by teenagers. This counseling
center will be composed of three large rooms, each about the size of a school’s auditorium. The first room will be used for
group counseling. Large groups will get together and talk problems over with their peers and will help each other find solutions
to (or methods to deal with) their problems. The second room will be used for various kinesthetic activities such as dodge ball,
jousting, boxing, etc. The third room will feature many smaller rooms for one-on-one counseling sessions with psychologists—
the only area in which adults lead discussion. A reasonable person would naturally harbor some concerns regarding the
teenagers’ inexperience in the areas of counseling. Such concerns should be quickly laid to rest because a certified adult
counselor will supervise all sessions. In the story of life, teenagers encounter conflicts just like any other human beings.
Consequently, they need people their own age who can truly understand their issues. Moreover, they also need kinesthetic
activities for those times when they just need to let a little aggression out, and the beneficial aspect of this counseling center,
which is worth noting twice, is that adult professionals will be available for any serious problems. Moreover, teenagers will get a
chance to learn some invaluable experience in the area of crisis management.
The final feature that must be included in the teen wing is a distance-learning center. This center will have several
classrooms that contain movie-screen-size Smart Boards, Internet connections for the laptops that can be checked out by
teenage members, and cameras that connect students to lessons from other facilities across the state and country. This
distance learning center will benefit teens by allowing them to receive tutoring that will utilize the latest technology, and they
will be able to earn high-school and college credit by taking classes offered from educational institutions around the country.
Basically, this distance-learning center will provide teens not only the chance to progress academically, but they will also get a
chance to tutor and teach their peers. Again, concern about the costs and supervision of teens while working with the
technology is natural. However, families will likely be willing to pay for the use of this technology because the available
opportunities will be more convenient than having to travel out of their neighborhoods for such things. Moreover, adults will be
available to supervise the teen’s interactions with the technology, which will also be equipped with the latest security and childfriendly filters.
In short, an indoor track, a counseling center led by teens, and a distance-learning center must be included in the teen
wing of the new Moore community center. The indoor track will be an excellent resource for physical fitness and catharsis and
will help Moore acquire extra revenue. The counseling center will keep teens emotionally fit by allowing them chances to talk
through issues with their peers and with psychologists, if needed, and the distance learning center will provide adolescent
students tutoring opportunities that utilize the latest technology, and will offer chances to earn high-school and college credit
through distant-learning courses. With all of this in mind, heed the advice of Moore teenagers. Give them a teen wing that will
help them remain physically, emotionally, and mentally fit.
Thank you very much for your time.
Sincerely,
Kacey Miller
