PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN
Step I: Preparing to Write the Plan—REFLECTION
Reflect and prepare to write your PDP goal in Step II. While reflection is a required step in the PDP process, recording your reflection
below is optional.
Step II: Writing the Plan—COMPONENTS
A. Description of School and Teaching, Administrative, or Pupil Services Situation
Mayville School District currently provides educational services to a rural student population of about 1200 students. The
community of Mayville is a highly industrialized and agriculturally based community with a current population just over 5,000.
The district and staff are committed to providing a quality educational environment and experience for the young people of Mayville
and the surrounding area. Mayville School district strives to continually improve the developed educational system that is inclusive
of students with special needs, gifts and talents, and the students with diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
I have recently been hired as the technology education instructor as well as the assisting agriculture instructor and advisor at
Mayville High School. The High School has a population of 510 students through grades 9-12. The certified staff is composed of
40 teachers in addition to 45 support staff members. The smaller size of the school is conductive to student success, and the
teachers, parents, and administrators work together to the goal of quality education for all students. As the instructor of technology
and agriculture education at the High School I am teaching in these departments with one other technology education instructor and
one other agriculture education instructor. I am also serving responsibilities of assisting with the advisory of the FFA. Within
these departments I am teaching three technology education courses as well as three agriculture education courses. The High
School provides a wood shop, metals shop, agriculture shop, computer drafting lab, greenhouse and two classrooms for both of the
departments of my instructional placement.
According to DPI data, Mayville High School and the District in general displays above average state achievement testing

th
scores. Mayville 10 graders scored about 10-15% higher than state averages on testing areas the previous fiscal school year. Just
fewer than 40% of students in the district participated in extracurricular/co-curricular academic activities during this school year.
Review Checklist for Description of School Situation
Did you include a description of your teaching, pupil services, or administrative position?
Did you include the number of years you have taught, been an administrator, or been in pupil services?
Did you include whether the school is located in an urban, suburban, or rural setting?
Did you include the ethnic, special needs, and socioeconomic makeup of the school population?
Did you include your building goals/mission and/or district goals/mission?
B. Description of Goal to be Addressed
It is recommended that you use this stem: I will… (research, study, learn, apply, etc.) So that… (describe what you want to see
happening differently with student learning).
I will improve my skills in preparing, developing, applying, and evaluating several learning techniques and methods into my
classroom and lab so that students will actively learn through knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in
order to transition their learning into continuous engagements in learning.
Review Checklist for Description of the Goal
Did you describe how your goal will impact your professional growth?
Did you describe how your professional growth will have an effect on student learning?
C. Rationale for the Goal: Links to Professional Situation and Wisconsin Educator Standards
Based on your reflection, describe the reason for your goal. Describe how your goal is linked to your educational situation, and
write out the Wisconsin Educator Standards (two or more) that you will focus on to meet your goal.
By improving my skills in providing effective learning processes, my students can apply what they have learned in other
technology and agriculture courses, real life scenarios, and post-secondary education. Concentrating content knowledge around
STEM allows for the ability to align my technology and agriculture curriculum with core curriculum courses in the High School.
Improving my development of instructional activities will make me a more prepared teacher and a professional who encourages
active engagement in student learning. My goal addresses Wisconsin teacher standards #1, #4, #6. #7, #8, #9, #10. Through my
goal I will strive to focus on improving and developing within each of these standards.
Review Checklist for Rationale for the Goal
Does the rationale tell how your goal connects to your school, teaching, administrative, or pupil services situation? (Choose the
category that applies to your situation)
Did you write out the Wisconsin Educator Standards that you will focus on to meet your goal? (must select two or more)
D. Plan for Assessing and Documenting the Goal
Record the anticipated methods you will use to assess your professional growth and the effect on student learning. It may be
helpful to review steps III and IV when writing your assessment plan as they outline what is necessary when documenting your
completed plan.
PDP Writing Form—2009
I will assess my professional growth of improving my skills in developing learning methods within the criteria of my goal by
becoming credible of STEM core subjects. I will take courses on STEM content within the technology and agriculture fields and
review Project Lead the Way Curriculum to reinforce this content knowledge. Requesting faculty, such as the principal, to observe
and assess my learning methods and techniques will also help me to grow professionally. Students will also assess my professional
growth by filling out surveys of my classes. I will use my developed unit/lesson plan evaluation criterion (artifact 8 of my
portfolio) to assess effective student learning. Developing communication with faculty to ensure that my former students are
applying what they learned in my classes is also a method I plan on using to assess student learning and professional growth within
my goal as well.
Review Checklist for Plan for Assessing and Documenting Achievement of the Goal
