They are called saints. Saints are people who chose to be holy. We are touring the saints in our church. Classes should be divided in half. A catechist or two should be with each group of children. Hand out tour booklets. The catechist who is the guide will spend 4 minutes at each station. Allow one minute travel time. This should take approximately 40 minutes. Please do not enter a station until the other group has left! There will be a schedule at the grade level table. It will be a staggered start. Each group will begin at a different station then proceed in numerical order. Return to class (approximately 15 minutes left in class) Review the saints that you learned about. Which saints had vocations? All of them. Do you have a vocation? Yes, God calls all of us to be holy. We can also be called as lay people, or priests, or religious. Which were priests? St. Thomas Aquinas Which were religious? St. Teresa, St. Martin, St. Thomas, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (but we did not say this in her station—so don’t expect kids to know this) Have children complete the matching portion. Our holiness comes from sharing God’s life. We do this when: -we tell others about Jesus -we treat others as Jesus did -we care for those in need -we help others to know that God’s life and love are alive in the world. SaintsAre Followers of Jesus who lived holy lives on earth and are now with God in heaven. NaveThe name of the big rectangular area in front of the altar where all the pews are. TranseptThe name of the small rectangular area to the sides of the altar where the pews are. (like short arms of a cross) baptisteryThe name of the area at the back of the nave where the holy water font is. This is where babies are baptized. NarthexThe name of the rectangular area surrounded by the big wooden doors, the entrance to the chapel, and the entrance to the main church. It is supposed to be an area where you slow down to forget where you are coming from and to remember that you are about to go into a holy space. ReligiousSome Church members follow Jesus in the religious life. They are priests, brothers, or sisters who belong to religious communities. They share their lives with God and others in a special way. Fr. Stephen Sanchez is a religious priest. He is a Carmelite. Fr. Alphonse is a religious priest. Fr. Alphonse is a Legionnaire. Father Henry is a diocesan priest. He works in the Dallas diocese.
