His parents Elwyn and Mary Bruhl live at Twin Lakes. Elwyn continues to volunteer with Dodger wrestling. Brad’s high school accomplishments include: 4-time state placewinner; 4-time district champion, 3-time conference champion. First team all conference in football as a defensive back. Wrestling team state finishes, 1st, 4th, 5th, and 2nd respectively; as well as placing individually: 4th place in 1985; 2nd place in 1986; 3rd place in 1987, and state champion in 1988. Brad’s coaches in high school include Don Miller, Hans Goettsche, Dave Morgan, Ed Birnbaum, Rod Riessen, Mike Woodley, Sam Moser, and Terry Paulson. His most memorable athletic experiences are winning the state team title in wrestling in 1985, beating Dowling (the number 1 ranked team in the nation) and winning the state championship his senior year. Brad attended the University of Iowa from 1988-91; and the University of Northern Iowa from 91-93, receiving his BA in 1993. Brad’s college accolades include: 2-time Western Regional Champion, 2-time NCAA qualifier; 2-time letterwinner, Iowa 90, 91; 2-time letterwinner UNI 92, 93; co-captain UNI wrestling team 92-93; silver medal ‘90 olympic sports festival - freestyle; bronze medal ‘91 olympic sports festival – freestyle; Olympic Trials Qualifier, 1992, freestyle.
