Letter to Fieldwork Mentors
Dear _________________________:
I, ______________________, a senior at Prep Charter High School, am asking you to be a
Senior Project Mentor because of your special skills, knowledge, or experiences. The senior
project at Prep Charter is designed to help students apply their in-school education with
learning beyond our classroom walls. Although I have chosen to conduct fieldwork, I will also
be conducting independent research on a related topic. At the conclusion of my work, I will
synthesize my research and fieldwork and present my findings and understandings to a panel
of judges.
As a mentor, you will serve as a supervisor and teacher to me. It is important that I engage
in a rich experience because I want to learn as much as possible and truly understand this
“real” world. As my mentor, I am asking that you:
1. Work with me to develop a working plan that established the goals of the fieldwork
and the steps we will take to meet them.
2. Guide, encourage, and oversee me while I complete this fieldwork.
3. Let me have authentic experiences when appropriate.
4. Verify the time I spend using a Fieldwork Log that I will provide.
5. Finally, write a letter of recommendation for me based on your observations and my
efforts in meeting the goals of the fieldwork plan to help me pursue my postsecondary educational plans.
This fieldwork option for us, as seniors, provides us with an opportunity to get the
expertise of members of the community. I am so grateful to you for your participation and
hope you will find this as meaningful as I will.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact my Senior Seminar
Instructor, Ms. Elizabeth Broccolino. She can be reached by email at embrocc@gmail.com or

Sincerely,
