“Keep-A-Cube” Part 3 Math Integration Essential Standard: I can relate volume to the operations of multiplication and addition and solve real world and mathematical problems involving volume. 5.MD.5 Essential Questions: What is the volume and surface area of each side of your final cooler prototype? Requirements: 1. Draw your final cooler prototype digitally or by hand. Include the dimensions (length, width, height) of your cooler in centimeters.(see page 2) 2. Find the exterior and interior volumes of your cooler in centimeters. Be sure to give the volume of the space available to put items into (interior) and the volume of the space it will take up in a car/closet/table (exterior). Be sure to include units in your answers! 3. Find the surface area of each side of your cooler. Use the following website for help finding surface area: http://www.math.com/tables/geometry/surfareas.htm Be sure to include units in your answers! 4. Use page 3 of this document or a separate sheet of paper to show all of your work for requirements #2 and #3. Grading Rubric Category 3 2 1 0 Drawing of Cooler Done digitally or by hand and followed all the requirements Done digitally or by hand but only followed some of the requirements Done digitally or by hand but followed few of the requirements Did not submit a drawing of the cooler Dimensions of Cooler All 3 dimensions are given in centimeters and are correct All 3 dimensions are given but not in centimeters or are incorrect Not all 3 dimensions are given and not in centimeters or are in correct Did not submit a drawing of the cooler Volumes of Cooler Correctly identified the interior and exterior volumes and included units Correctly identified only one of the interior or exterior volumes and/or did not include units Did not correctly identify the interior and the exterior volumes and or/ did not include units Did not identify the volumes of the cooler Surface Area of Cooler Correctly identified the surface area of each 6 sides of the cooler and included units Correctly identified the surface area of 3-5 sides of the cooler and/or did not included units Correctly identified the surface area of less than 2 sides of the cooler and/or did not include units Did not find the surface area of each 6 sides of the cooler Work Shown All work is clearly and concisely shown for finding volume and surface area Only some work is clearly and concisely shown for finding volume and surface area Work is not clearly and concisely shown for finding volume and surface area No work is shown for either volume or surface area Drawing of Your Cooler Requirements If you choose to draw by hand: ● ● ● ● must be neat, must be colored appropriately, must be drawn to scale, must include the dimensions in centimeters (cm), ● must submit the hard copy to your teacher. If you choose to draw digitally: ● can use Google Drawings, or another similar program/app, ● must be colored appropriately, ● must be drawn to scale, ● must include the dimensions in centimeters (cm), ● must share the image with your teacher via email or by inserting it into the bottom of this document.
