“Keep-A-Cube” Part 3
Math Integration
Essential Standard: I can relate volume to the operations of multiplication and addition and solve
real world and mathematical problems involving volume. 5.MD.5
Essential Questions: What is the volume and surface area of each side of your final cooler
prototype?
Requirements:
1. Draw your final cooler prototype digitally or by hand. Include the dimensions (length,
width, height) of your cooler in centimeters.(see page 2)
2. Find the exterior and interior volumes of your cooler in centimeters. Be sure to give the
volume of the space available to put items into (interior) and the volume of the space it
will take up in a car/closet/table (exterior). Be sure to include units in your answers!
3. Find the surface area of each side of your cooler. Use the following website for help
finding surface area: http://www.math.com/tables/geometry/surfareas.htm Be sure to
include units in your answers!
4. Use page 3 of this document or a separate sheet of paper to show all of your work for
requirements #2 and #3.
